SCHEDULE 5 – CLASSIFICATION DEFINITIONS

Automotive spare parts and/or accessories salesperson (qualified) is deemed to be qualified if the employee has passed the appropriate course of technical training, or if the employee possesses the ability gained through experience deemed by the employer to be equivalent to the appropriate course of technical training.
Building Hardware Sales Assistant is an employee who has had at least two years adult experience selling builders hardware and in so doing is required to have a technical knowledge of hardware. Such a person should be competent to advise builders, architects and tradesmen, as well as handymen customers of the merits of the hardware and its application for the customers' special requirements, and must be capable of preparing or arranging installation of hardware items by third parties if called upon.
Catering Employee means any employee to whom this part of this clause applies who:
Central Shopping District means the portion of the municipality of the Corporation of the City of Adelaide that lies within the hundred of Adelaide.
Clothing Hire Assistant is an employee who is principally engaged in the hire of clothing to the public.
Cook (Tradesperson) shall mean a qualified or recognised chef or cook who has completed an apprenticeship or who has passed the appropriate trade test and who is engaged in cooking, baking, pastry cooking or butchering duties.
Creative Window Dresser means an employee engaged to design, plan and coordinate window and/or interior displays and who dresses and/or directs the dressing of those displays.
Demonstrator is a person not elsewhere classified who demonstrates and who may also sell goods.
Display Artist shall mean any person engaged in designing and/or producing properties and/or art work to be used in conjunction with displays and/or promotions.
Establishment which does not trade after 12.30pm on Saturday in any given week shall mean a shop which is closed and fastened against the admission of the public by no later than 12.30pm on Saturday and for the remainder of that Saturday after 12.30pm.
Experienced Camera Sales Assistant is an employee who:
(a) has had at least two adult years experience in the selling of photographic equipment and who is employed exclusively in a shop or department of a shop operating specifically for that purpose. Before a salesman can be so classified he shall be deemed to be experienced by his employer. An employer shall classify at least one, in addition to the buyer and/or the supervisor, in each three or part thereof of his staff as an experienced camera salesman; or
(b) who is engaged in the receipt of film and/or the preparation for sale of photographs by processing, developing or printing in or about any shop.
Experienced Corsetiere is an adult employee with two years practical experience in selling foundation garments. An experienced corsetiere will work exclusively at selling foundation garments in a shop or department operating specifically for that purpose. The work of an experienced corsetiere includes fitting the garments in rooms set aside for this purpose.
Experienced Cosmetician is an adult with two years practical experience (either as a junior or adult) in selling cosmetics. An experienced cosmetician will work exclusively selling cosmetics or beauty aids in a shop or department of a shop operating specifically for that An experienced cosmetician shall be capable of preparing beauty aid charts for customers and advising customers on all problems in the field of cosmetics, relative to skin care.
Experienced Furniture and/or Floor Covering Sales Assistant is an employee with at least two adult years experience in selling furniture and/or floor coverings. A person so classified will work exclusively at selling furniture and/or floor coverings in a shop or department of a shop operating specifically for that purpose.
Experienced Sportsgoods Assistant is an employee with at least two adult years experience in selling sporting goods. A person so qualified will work exclusively selling sporting goods in a shop or department of a shop operating specifically for that purpose. Before an employee can be so classified, he or she shall be deemed to be experienced by his employer. An employer shall classify at least one, in addition to the buyer and/or supervisor, in each three or part thereof of his staff as an experienced sportsgoods salesman.
General Cook shall mean a person employed to perform the cooking of food other than a Cook (Tradesperson).
Kitchen Hand shall mean a person employed to perform any or all of the following: general cleaning duties within a kitchen or food preparation area and scullery, including the cleaning of cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and glassware used in a kitchen, cafe, restaurant or canteen; duties assisting employees who are cooking; duties involving the assembly and preparation of ingredients for cooking.
Metropolitan Shopping District means the portion of the metropolitan area that is not comprised in the Central Shopping District.
Food and Beverage Assistant shall mean a person employed in a canteen, cafe or restaurant in or about a retail establishment and who performs duties other than those of a Cook (Tradesperson), General Cook or Kitchen hand, and including but not limited to clearing or wiping down tables, serving customers, undertaking general waiting duties of both food and beverages, receiving monies, taking reservations, greeting and seating guests, warming and presenting food, mixing and dispensing beverages, attending a snack bar or counter.
Retail Outdoor Salesperson is an employee engaged in the sale of goods by retail predominantly away from the employer's place of business.
Rostered Day Off (RDO) is a fixed or rotating paid day off as prescribed in 6.2.1.1, 6.2.2.1 or 6.2.3.1.
Sales Assistant selling ladies fashions is an employee with at least two adult years experience in selling ladies fashions. A person so classified shall be employed selling ladies fashion frocks, gowns, coats, suits or furs requiring specialised service and fitting in a shop or in a department of a shop operating exclusively for that purpose.
Shop Assistant is an employee whose principal function is to make direct sales to the public and in doing so accepts or arranges payment for goods sold.
Showcard Artist means any person who devises layout and executes the drawing and/or painting of designs or objects on cardboard, paper or any other material used to describe any article and/or price or used in or ancillary to the display of goods whether writing or printing is used in addition or not.
Silk Screen Artist means any person making a design for a silk screen print and who may cut the stencils therefore and/or act in a supervisory capacity during the production of the screen print.
Silk Screen Printer means any person, other than a Silk Screen Artist, engaged in the occupation of the production of screen prints which occupation shall include: the mixing and matching of colours, the cutting and applying of stencils and/or the production of photo stencils, the making and/or preparation of silk screens, applying colour to any surface through a screen and/or printing by any automatic or hand screen method.
Silk Screen Worker means any person, other than a Silk Screen Printer, principally engaged in the operation of any hand or machine-operated silk screen.
Stock Buyer is a person appointed by the employer to buy merchandise from a wholesaler or manufacturer for the purpose of sale by retail and who uses initiative and discrimination in the selection of new items of merchandise in addition to stock replacement. This classification specifically excludes any employee who only reorders lines of merchandise to a specific standard level.
Supermarket Assistant is an employee engaged in or about a self-service shop of any description, in all or any of the following classes of work:
(a) weighing, price marking, wrapping and/or despatching of goods;
(b) replenishing and/or maintaining stocks of goods;
(c) generally assisting on the floor of the shop other than as a checkout operator or shop assistant (as defined).
Supervisor (without buying responsibility) (2 - 4 employees, 5 - 8 employees, or 9 or more employees) is a person in charge of employees who directs the performance of their work and who is in turn responsible to the manager of the department or stock buyer.
Ticket Assembler means any person other than a ticket writer who is employed in the occupation of producing tickets by fixing prepared figures or letters on cardboard, paper or any other material.
Ticket Writer means any person, other than a showcard artist employed in the occupation of writing and/or printing store tickets on cardboard, paper or any other material used to describe any article or to denote any price.
Ticket Writing Machine Operator means any person other than a Ticket Writer who is employed in operating a Printasign or similar machine.
Video Hire Assistant is an employee who is principally engaged in the hire of video cassettes to the public.
Window Dresser means any person principally employed in the occupation of dressing or arranging any window, showcase or interior display whose work consists principally of such dressing or arranging in accordance with any predetermined layout or design.
