AN160741 – Coal Mining Industry (Engineers) Award 1990
(1) All employees engaged by the employers under this award shall make application to become members of the Union within 3 weeks of their engagement.
(2) The Union shall accept them as members provided that they are persons of good character and tender the entrance fees and subscriptions in accordance with the rules of the Union.
(3) Provided that this shall not oblige a Union, where its rules so provide, to accept as a tradesperson-member anyone other than a person who has duly served the time as an apprentice or is otherwise considered to be a competent tradesperson.
Provided further that this clause does not apply where temporary assistance is being rendered by a member of the Coal Miners' Union to employees provided for under this award.
(4) The union shall be entitled to have two union meetings to be held during paid time each month and shall not exceed 45 minutes duration unless by consent of the mine manager. Further meetings to discuss issues of an important and/or urgent nature will be conducted during paid time provided prior approval for the meeting has been obtained from the mine manager.
