18. CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARIES

18.1 Classification definitions

18.1.1 Level 1 Technician (Relativity 125%)

18.1.1(a) Classification requirements

An employee at this level must be capable of performing work above, beyond and including the requirements of a Level 2 Technician and consistent with clause 11 - Employee duties, this award:

18.2 Salaries

18.2.1 Adult employees

18.2.1(a) Adult employees, other than those specified in 18.2.1(b) hereof, shall be entitled to receive the award salary for the relevant classification as set out in the table herein:

18.2.1(b) The following adult employees are not entitled to receive the award salary set out in the table in 18.2.1(a) hereof:

18.2.1(c) Consistent with the August 1989 - National Wage Case decision [Print H9100] the rate for a Technician Level 3 consists of $30,137 and an additional payment of $130 per annum. This amount of $130 per annum will not be subject to adjustment.

18.2.1(d) All annual rates in this clause shall be calculated to the nearest $1.00.

18.2.1(e) For the purposes of ascertaining weekly wage rates for each classification (as referred to in various clauses of this award, e.g., casual employment, part-time employment) the salaries in 18.2.1 hereof shall be divided by 52.

18.2.2 Junior employees

18.2.2(a) The minimum salaries for junior employees shall be the undermentioned percentages of the appropriate adult salaries prescribed in 18.2.1 hereof.

18.2.2(b) See 18.3 hereof for the criteria regarding absorption of safety net adjustments.

18.2.3 Trainee rates

Trainees engaged under the terms of the National Training Wage Award 1994 as amended, shall be paid the appropriate rate of pay set out in that award.

18.3 Arbitrated safety net adjustment

18.3.1 The rates of pay in this award (other than the rate referred to in clause 8.2.1 which incorporates the Safety Net Review - Wages June 2005 decision [PR002005]) include the arbitrated safety net adjustment payable under the Safety Net Review - Wages May 2004 decision [PR002004]. This arbitrated safety net adjustment may be offset against any equivalent amount in rates of pay received by employees whose wages and conditions of employment are regulated by this award which are above the wage rates prescribed in the award. Such above-award payments include wages payable pursuant to certified agreements, currently operating enterprise flexibility agreements, Australian workplace agreements, award variations to give effect to enterprise agreements and overaward arrangements. Absorption which is contrary to the terms of an agreement is not required.

18.3.2 Increases made under previous National Wage Case principles or under the current Statement of Principles, excepting those resulting from enterprise agreements, are not to be used to offset arbitrated safety net adjustments.
