PART 8 – TRANSFERS, TRAVELLING AND WORKING AWAY FROM USUAL PLACE OF WORK 

33. TRAVELLING, TRANSPORT AND FARES

33.1 Travelling time payment

33.1.1 All reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in connection with the employer's business authorised by the employer and properly paid by the employee, shall be reimbursed by the employer.

33.1.2 Except as elsewhere provided in this award, an employee directed by the employer to travel in the employee’s own time to transact company business shall be paid travelling time and all expenses incurred whilst so travelling in accordance with 33.2 hereof.

33.1.3 An employee is not entitled to be paid for travelling in the employee’s own time to work at the employee’s accustomed workplace or territory. In circumstances where an employee is required to work away from the accustomed workplace or territory and travels in the employee’s own time to reach such place, the employee shall be entitled to be paid for the time reasonably spent in travelling to such place in excess of that which would be spent travelling from home to the accustomed workplace or boundary of the accustomed territory.

33.2 Payment for travelling

33.2.1 The amount of pay for an employee for travelling outside of ordinary hours shall be the ordinary rate of pay prescribed by this award for the classification in which the employee is employed.

33.2.2 The maximum travelling time to be paid for shall be twelve hours out of every 24 hours, or when sleeping berth is provided by the employer for all-night travel, eight hours out of every 24.

33.3 Expenses

Expenses for the purposes of 33.1.2 hereof shall mean:

33.3.1 All fares reasonably incurred at the following standard:

Rail:

First class (including the provision of a sleeping berth where available for all night-travel).

Air:

Economy class for all journeys.

Motor vehicle:

The provisions of 23.2 of this award shall apply.

33.3.2 Reasonable expenses incurred whilst travelling by air and rail including $11.90 for each meal taken (except where the cost of the meal is included in the fare). Provided that if an employee is required to travel for more than 2½ hours after the employee’s normal finishing time the employee shall be paid a meal allowance of $11.90 for the evening meal, if not provided by the employer.

33.3.3 Reimbursement of the cost incurred for lodging of at least reasonable hotel-motel standard.

33.3.4 Transfers to and from the appropriate terminal by taxi if not otherwise arranged the employer.

33.4 Relocation expenses

33.4.1 Where an employee is transferred to another location or another State, the cost of removal expenses reasonably incurred shall be borne and paid for by the employer, provided that an employee who is transferred at the employee’s own request may be required to pay their own expenses.

33.4.2 Where such employee is directed by the employer to another locality for employment which can be reasonably regarded as permanent and involving a change of residence and where the employee is in the process of buying a place of residence in that new location the employee shall be provided with suitable accommodation for a period not exceeding six weeks. Provided that in cases where such employees can show to the satisfaction of the employer that the employee had taken all reasonable steps to obtain a place of residence of a similar nature and standard to that which the employee previously enjoyed and without success, then the above mentioned period may be extended to a period not exceeding three months.

33.4.3 Where an employee is not in the process of buying a place of residence, the employer shall provide suitable accommodation for a period not exceeding four weeks.

33.4.4 The provisions of 33.4.2 and 33.4.3 hereof shall cease to apply immediately the employee assumes a new place of residence or when the purchase has been completed, which ever is the sooner.

33.4.5 For the purpose of this clause accommodation shall be limited to the provision of suitable housing.
