8. PAYMENT FOR PERIOD OF LEAVE

(a) During the period of any long service leave granted to the employee under this award an employee shall be paid (through the Employer's Representative) by respondents bound by this award who have employed the employee during the qualifying period of continuous service at the current rate of pay of that employee.
Provided that, if during the period of leave any change in the rate of pay applicable to that employee has been effected by variation of any award, determination or industrial agreement relating to seamen, marine cooks or marine stewards for the time being in force the rate of payment to which an employee on leave shall be entitled shall be, as from the date upon which such change is operative, such changed rate and if payment has been made in advance to any employee in respect of long service leave, the Employers' Representative shall, upon the employee's return to duty, adjust such advance payment to accord with such changed rate of pay, to the extent to which the changed rate is applicable.
(b) Payment shall be made in one of the following ways:
(i) in advance for the whole of the period when the employee commences the period of leave, at the rate calculated in accordance with paragraph (a) hereof; or
(ii) at the same times as payment would have been made if the employee had remained on duty, in which case payment shall, if the employee in writing so requires, be made by cheque posted to an address specified by him; or
(iii) in any other way agreed between the Employers' Representative and the employee.
