19. ALLOWANCES AND SPECIAL RATES
19.1 Work and expense related allowances Part A - all sites

19.1.2 Travelling allowance
The employer will allow an employee reasonable expenses for all fares, accommodation and other costs incurred in accordance with the instruction of the employer whilst travelling. All air fares will be at the economy rate.
19.1.3 Mixed functions
An employee engaged for more than two hours during one day or shift on duties carrying a higher rate than their ordinary classification will be paid the higher rate for such day or shift. If for two hours or less during one day or shift the employee will be paid the higher rate for the time so worked.
19.1.4 Protective clothing and equipment allowance
19.1.4(a) Where an employee is required to wear protective clothing and equipment as stipulated by the relevant law operating in a state or territory covered by this award, the employer must reimburse the employee for the cost of purchasing such special clothing and equipment. The provisions of this clause do not apply where the clothing and equipment is paid for by the employer.
19.1.4(b) An employer who requires an employee to have their prescription lenses case hardened will pay for the cost of such case hardening.
19.1.5 Tool allowance - non payment
Employers may reach agreement with an individual trades person or apprentice to provide all the tools required by them in the performance of their work. In such circumstances, the tool allowance will not be payable.
19.1.6 Extra rates not cumulative
Extra rates in this award, except rates prescribed in clause 19 - allowances and special rates and rates for work on public holidays, are not cumulative so as to exceed the maximum of double the ordinary rates.

19.3.1 An allowance for travelling time will be included as time worked on call back, subject to the following provisions (Except at Jindalee Project Facilities):
19.3.1(a) Payment will be made only when the employee is notified of the call back after the employee has left the premises and is not being paid for standing by in accordance with 24.3.
19.3.1(b) Any part of the period of four hours specified in 19.3.1(a) of this clause which is not worked will be deducted from the period of travelling time.
19.3.1(c) Payment will be made at the appropriate overtime rate.

19.5.2 Travelling allowance - appointment and relocation
Where employees are hired for the Jindalee Projects Facility from outside the Alice Springs area for employment the following conditions will apply:
19.5.2(a) The cost of Economy Class transport for an employee and their family from the place of residence of the employee to the Alice Spring area, will be provided.
19.5.2(b) The cost of transportation of employees together with their families and effects to the place of recruitment (or by mutual agreement to a lesser distance at no extra cost) will be provided on expiration or termination of the contract of employment or at anytime during the contract period where employee has completed not less than two years continuous service at the Jindalee project.
19.5.3 Duty officer’s allowances

19.5.3(a) An employee nominated as the Duty officer will be entitled to the payment of the following allowances:

19.5.3(b) The duty officer will also be entitled to a meal allowance of $50.25 per day for each day the employee is rostered to perform work after normal hours.
19.5.4 On Call and standing by allowance - refer to 24.3
19.5.5 District allowance
In addition to the salaries specified in clause 16 – Classifications and rates of pay and 19.1, employees will be paid a District Allowance in consideration of the contingencies associated with the working on the Jindalee Project Facilities. The allowance will be equivalent to the District Allowances prescribed from time to time in the Australia Public Service Award 1998, clause 26.
