21. TRAINING AND STUDY LEAVE

21.1 Where the employer requires an employee to undertake on or off-the-job training during ordinary working hours such training will be without loss of pay and the employer will pay for the cost of the training.

21.2 Where the employer requires an employee to undertake on-the-job training outside ordinary working hours the employee will be paid at the appropriate overtime rate in accordance with this award.

21.3 The employer does not currently require employees to undertake off-the-job training outside ordinary working hours.

21.4 Where an employee voluntarily undertakes off-the-job training outside ordinary working hours such time shall be unpaid. If the course is related to the employee’s job the employer may agree to assist the employee to the extent of:

21.4.1 reimbursement of course fees;

21.4.2 reimbursement of cost of text books.

21.5 Such reimbursement to occur on the successful completion of each year/segment of the course. (Receipts of expenditure are required).

21.6 If the course clashes in part with ordinary working hours the employer may agree to assist the employee by:

21.6.1 re-scheduling rostered days off;

21.6.2 re-arranging working hours;

21.6.3 allowing unpaid time;

provided the absence from work does not result in disruption to the operation of the business.
