34A. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

34A.1The provisions of this clause apply to full-time and regular part-time employees (on a pro rata basis) but do not apply to casual employees. The entitlements of casual employees are set out in clause 34B.

34A.2An employee is entitled to two days bereavement leave on each occasion if a member of the employee’s immediate family or household or, stepfather or stepmother in Australia dies.

34A.3Where an employee has exhausted all bereavement leave entitlements, they may access accumulated personal leave entitlements, for the purpose of bereavement.

34A.4Proof of death must be provided to the satisfaction of the employer, if requested.

34A.5This clause has no operation while the periods of entitlement to leave under it coincides with any other period of leave.

34A.6Death outside Australia - funeral/service overseas

The provisions of paragraph 34A shall apply upon the death outside Australia of any of the employees immediate family, or household, or stepmother, or stepfather upon the production of satisfactory evidence of the death and evidence of the employees travel outside of Australia to attend the deceased’s funeral/service.

34A.7Death outside Australia - service locally

Where any member of the employees immediate family, or household, or stepmother, or stepfather dies outside Australia and a weekly employee with three months service does not travel outside Australia to attend the funeral/service, such employee shall be entitled to bereavement leave not exceeding the number of hours worked by the employee on one ordinary day’s work for the purpose of attending a local service for the deceased. Evidence of the death and the service shall be furnished by the employee to the satisfaction of the employer.

34A.8Unpaid bereavement leave

An employee may take unpaid bereavement leave by agreement with the employer.
