21. SPECIAL LEAVE

21.1 Training/study leave

Time-off without loss of pay or annual leave may be granted at the discretion of the council to employees for the under mentioned purposes:

21.1.1 attendance at examinations and training schools provided the course undertaken is relevant to the employee's occupation and of benefit to council. Attendance requires prior approval by the divisional manager; or

21.1.2 attendance at the annual conference of any recognised institute or other body concerned with municipal management. Attendance is to be approved by the divisional manager.

21.2 Jury service

21.2.1 Employees called upon for jury service shall be granted leave at the rate of the difference between their normal pay and jury service fee without deduction from their annual leave.

21.2.2 An employee subpoenaed to attend a court as a witness may, with the approval of the council, be granted leave on full pay without deduction from recreational leave, provided that witness expenses shall be claimed and paid to the council.
