14.1 For the purpose of this clause:
14.1.1 Afternoon shift means any shift finishing after 6.00 p.m. and at or before midnight.
14.1.2 Night shift means any shift finishing subsequent to midnight and at or before 8.00 a.m.
14.1.3 Rostered shift means a shift of which the employee concerned has had at least 48 hours notice.
14.2 Hours
14.2.1 The ordinary hours of shift workers shall not exceed 38 in any one week to be worked in 5 shifts of 8 hours on Monday to Friday inclusive.
14.2.2 Such ordinary hours shall be worked continuously except for meal breaks at the discretion of the employer.
14.2.3 Twenty minutes shall be allowed to shift workers each shift, for crib which shall be counted as time worked.
14.2.4 An employee shall not be required to work more than 5 hours without a break for a meal
14.3 One shift in 24 hours
Except at regular change-over of shifts an employee shall not be required to work more than one shift in each 24 hours.
14.4 Rosters
Shift rosters shall specify the commencing and finishing times of ordinary working hours of the respective shifts.
14.5 Variation by agreement
14.5.1 The method working shifts may in any case be varied as to all or a section of the employees by agreement between the employer and the accredited employee representative which may include a union representative to suit the circumstances of the establishment.
14.5.2 The time of commencing and finishing shifts once having been determined may be varied by agreement between the employer and the accredited employee representative which may include a union representative to suit the circumstances of the establishment or, in the absence of agreement, by 7 days’ notice of alteration given by the employer to its employees.
14.6 Shift work allowances
14.6.1 For working rostered shifts, clerical employees engaged on shift work shall be paid the shift allowances prescribed by 14.6.3 hereof in addition to the salaries prescribed by clause 28 - Classifications and wage rates of the award.
14.6.2 For the purpose of this subclause rostered shifts means the shifts established by the roster for each particular system of shift work including where applicable, rostered shifts on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays referred to in clause 15 - Holidays of this award and the twenty-first shift in each four weekly cycle.

14.6.4 The shift allowance prescribed in 14.6.3 shall be paid on approved paid absences pursuant to clause 17 - Personal leave of this award.
14.7 Overtime
14.7.1 All work done by shift workers in excess of or outside the hours prescribed by the applicable shift roster or on a shift other than a rostered shift shall be paid for at the rate of time and one half for the first two hours on any one day and at the rate of double time thereafter, such double time to continue until the completion of the overtime worked except where time is worked:
14.7.1(a) by arrangement between the employees themselves; or
14.7.1(b) for the purpose of effecting the customary rotation of shifts.
14.7.2 A shift worker required to work overtime on a Saturday shall be afforded at least four hours’ work or paid for four hours at the appropriate rate, except where such overtime is continuous with overtime or work commenced on the previous day or shift or completed on the following day shift. Provided that where work continues over two days the minimum payment shall be for four hours at the appropriate rate.
14.8 Sunday and holiday work
A shift worker required to work on a Sunday or a holiday referred to in clause 15 - Holidays of this award other than on a rostered shift shall be paid at the rate of double the ordinary rate of wage on Sundays and at the rate of double and one half the ordinary rate of wage on holidays with a minimum payment of four hours but such minimum payment shall not apply where such work is continuous with work commenced on the previous day or shift or completed on the following day or shift. Provided that where work continues over two days the minimum payment shall be for four hours at the appropriate rate.
14.9 General conditions
The general conditions applicable to shift workers working overtime on a Sunday or a holiday referred to in clause 15 - Holidays of this award shall be in accordance with clause 13 - Overtime and Sunday and holiday work - general conditions of this award.
