11.1 Subject to the provisions of clause 15 - Termination of employment, the contract of hiring shall, in the absence of an express contract to the contrary, be deemed to be a hiring by the week.
11.2 Unavoidable stoppages
An employee whose contract of hiring is by the week shall not be entitled to payment for time lost when work is unavoidably stopped because of a breakdown of plant and/or machinery or a failure of power or a shortage of material or a strike. In case an employee on any day reports for duty at the employee’s usual place of employment without having received notice of such stoppage before leaving home for work, the employee shall be paid in respect of that day not less than two hours pay. An employee having started work on any such day shall be entitled to be paid for a minimum of two hours’ work.
