4. DEFINITIONS

4.1 Permanent employee means either a full-time or part-time employee engaged on weekly hire.

4.2 Casual employee means an employee engaged on an hourly basis to perform the duties prescribed for a clerical and administrative employee.

4.3 Limited tenure refers to a permanent employee engaged for a specific task or tasks and/or for a specific period of time provided that the employee is engaged to:

• replace another employee who is absent for reasons such as paternity leave, long service leave, or extended sick leave;
• perform a short term operational requirement which has an anticipated completion date.

4.4 Day worker means an employee who is rostered to commence their ordinary hours of work within the hours prescribed for day workers on any day of the week.

4.5 Shift employee means an employee who is rostered to complete their ordinary hours of work between the hours of 7.00 p.m. and midnight.

4.6 Probationary employee means a permanent employee who for the first three months of continuous employment will be on probation.

4.7 Ordinary time earnings means payment based upon the stipulated weekly wage rate for the appropriate classification as defined in clause 13 - Wage rates.

4.8 Continuous service for the purpose of leave accruals, includes all service with the Company from the date of engagement, but will not include in any anniversary year of accrual:

4.8.1 unauthorised absences of more than one week;

4.8.2 authorised unpaid absences of more than one week as provided in clause 27 - Family leave; and

4.8.3 any authorised unpaid absence of more than one week due to sickness.
