PART 5 - WAGES AND RELATED MATTERS 

14. CLASSIFICATION, RATES OF PAY AND SUPERANNUATION

Note: The Superannuation Legislation Amendment (Choice of Superannuation Funds) Act 2005 provides that individual employees generally have the opportunity to choose their own superannuation funds. 14.1 Junior rates

14.1.1 The wage rates for a junior employee shall be determined on the basis of the following age related percentages:

21 and over

100%

20 and under 21 years

90%

19 and under 20 years

80%

18 and under 19 years

67.5%

17 and under 18 years

55%

16 and under 17 years

50%

under 16 years

45%

14.1.2 These percentages shall be applied to the relevant classification detailed in clauses 14.2, 14.3 and 14.4.

14.1.3 A junior employee appointed as a Team Leader shall be paid the adult rate.

14.2 Team Member in Training

14.2.1 A Team Member in Training is a new adult employee with no previous relevant experience. A Team Member in Training may be employed on a casual, part-time or full-time basis.

14.2.2 A definition of previous relevant experience will be established in accordance with the operational needs of each business covered by this award.

14.2.3 An employee at this level performs routine duties only to their level of training. Such an employee:

* works under direct supervision;

* undertakes and completes training structured by PFO in order to develop relevant competencies;

* exercises only minimal judgment during their training period; and

* participates in team based workplace activities as required.

14.2.4 No employee shall work in this capacity for more than three months.

14.2.5 Employees at this level shall receive 95% of Team Member Level 1 rate of pay.

14.3 Team Member Level 1

14.3.1 An employee at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of a Team Member in Training and to the level of their training. Such an employee can perform tasks with general supervision, exercising limited discretion within defined procedures.

14.3.2 Skills duties:

* is trained in and applies basic quality/service requirements;

* has knowledge of applicable Company policies and procedures in relation to tasks performed;

* can perform a range of tasks across a range of areas;

* is able to provide buddy training, for the purpose of induction of new Level 1 employees, within their work area and skills limitations on skills development and workplace health and safety matters;

* is responsible for assuring the quality/service of their own work;

* is able to exercise good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with fellow employees, state/national office employees, suppliers (eg. delivering goods and following up queries) and customers;

* continues training as required by PFO;

* undertakes general housekeeping duties as necessary;

* works in a team environment and/or under supervision;

* order assembling, including picking stock from specific areas;

* receipt and storage of goods and materials;

* receiving and sorting inward and outward mail;

* delivers messages;

* preparation, receipt and collation of basic documents;

* operation of basic electronic equipment;

* filing and sorting documents;

* demonstrates basic telephone customer service and selling techniques;

* monitors adherence to PFO’s, Fire Prevention and Security policies and procedures;

* demonstrates the correct PFO Security procedures for the receival of goods/property, including accurately verifying and/or completing of all relevant documentation;

* demonstrates an understanding of PFO’s Receival procedures with the ability to accurately audit goods that have been receipted and detect discrepancies and has the ability to take appropriate action when discrepancies are detected;

* demonstrates an understanding of Dissipation and where necessary takes appropriate action; and

* performs other Loss Prevention duties as required.

14.3.3 Roles which are indicative of, but not limited to, the Team Member Level 1 classification, include a:

* Personal shopper;

* Stock replenisher;

* Clerical/administrative operator; and

* Loss Prevention Officer.

14.4 Team Member Level 2

14.4.1 An employee at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of a Team Member Level 1 and to the level of their training. Such an employee:

* can perform tasks with general supervision, exercising limited discretion within defined procedures;

* can perform a range of tasks across a range of areas, and/or demonstrates specialist knowledge and skills in a particular work area/function;

* is able to exercise sound interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with fellow employees, State/national office employees, suppliers and customers;

* demonstrates advanced data entry skills;

* demonstrates advanced keyboard skills and knowledge of functional aspects of applicable computer equipment and software programs in order to enter, retrieve and manipulate data as necessary;

* creates and edit spreadsheets and other detailed documents and correspondence; and

* demonstrates advanced telephone customer service and selling techniques.

14.4.2 Roles which are indicative of, but not inclusive to, the Team Member Level 2 classification include:

* Specialist;

* Customer inquiry operator;

* Clerical/administrative operator; and

* Call centre operator.

14.4.3 Employees at this level shall receive 105% of the Team Member Level 1 rate of pay.

14.5 Team Leader

14.5.1 A Team Leader shall mean an employee appointed as such who has completed appropriate, accredited training and is capable of applying skills learnt there to their work. A Team Leader may supervise and direct other staff, however they may also work to defined procedures in addition to supervisory tasks.

14.5.2 A Team Leader at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of a Team Member Level 1 or 2 employee and to the level of their training. Such an employee:

* works from complex instructions and procedures;

* is able to coach and develop employees in the performance of their duties;

* is able to co-ordinate work in a team environment or work individually under general supervision;

* is accountable and responsible for workplace output;

* is capable of working without supervision;

* understands PFO’s entire operation, including all applicable policies and procedures;

* assists in the development and facilitation of training and development in conformity with PFO guidelines;

* demonstrates and applies high problem solving skills within defined procedures; and

* participates in team based workplace activities as required.

14.5.3 Employees at this level shall receive 110% of the Team Member Level 1 rate of pay.

14.6 Progression/re-classification

Progression from the prescribed training rate after a maximum of three months shall be automatic.

14.7 Vacancies

Any vacancies for positions covered by the classifications contained in this award, shall require application by the employee. Where possible, PFO will endeavour to notify employees of vacancies at the Level 1 and Level 2 classifications contained in this award. An appropriate selection process will be followed, giving regard to the employee having successfully completed the appropriate training modules and having achieved the level of competency required for appointment to the higher level.

14.8 Rates of pay

Rates of pay based upon 38 hours: Refer to clause 14.2, 14.3, 14.4 and 14.5 in respect of the key classification used to establish the rates of pay.

14.9 The rates of pay in this award include the arbitrated safety net adjustment payable under the Safety Net Review—Wages May 2005 decision [PR002005]. This arbitrated safety net adjustment may be offset against any equivalent amount in rates of pay received by employees whose wages and conditions of employment are regulated by this award which are above the wage rates prescribed in the award. Such above-award payments include wages payable pursuant to certified agreements, currently operating enterprise flexibility agreements, Australian workplace agreements, award variations to give effect to enterprise agreements and overaward arrangements. Absorption which is contrary to the terms of an agreement is not required.

Increases made under previous National Wage Case principles or under the current Statement of Principles, excepting those resulting from enterprise agreements, are not to be used to offset arbitrated safety net adjustments.

14.10 Occupational superannuation

14.10.1 All employees engaged under the conditions of this award will be enrolled in the Retail Employees Superannuation Trust (REST).
