17. CLASSIFICATIONS
17.1 Shop assistant means an employee performing duties normally performed by a shop assistant which may include:
In this definition trolley collector driver means an employee who is engaged by a retail store, wholesaler or contractor, and who is responsible for the collection of shopping trolleys and the loading onto a trailer for transporting to designated storage areas, and the unloading of the trolleys at those areas. The collection of the trolleys will involve the driving of a vehicle to haul a trailer for the carriage of the trolleys. The duties of a trolley collector will also be included in the duties of a trolley collector driver. Additional duties will involve the maintenance of the vehicle excluding mechanical repairs. A trolley collector driver will be paid at the rate of pay for a shop assistant.
17.2 Warehouse employee means an employee engaged in selling, receiving, handling, selecting or checking any goods, driving forklifts and using mechanical equipment as required, in a retail or wholesale shop or warehouse.
17.3 Machine operator means an employee performing duties normally performed by machine operators including the work of mini-labs processing.
17.4 Retail merchandiser means an employee who is employed to stack shelves in a shop and/or carry out duties normally associated with the work of a shop assistant, excluding persons employed by a bread manufacturer and except in an emergency, the preparation of gondola ends and display units where defined in the Commercial Travellers (A.C.T.) Consolidated Award, 1994 [Print L7405 [C0131]] as varied.
This classification will not apply to an employee employed by a retail employer in a shop.
17.5 Restaurant worker means an employee who works in a restaurant, canteen or cafeteria within a retail shop.
17.6 Qualified tradesperson includes an employee that has completed an appropriate trades course.
