The rules of each registered organisation must require all officers whose duties relate to financial management to undertake approved training within 6 months of taking office (see s.154D, Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009).
The requirement includes officers elected or appointed following casual vacancies. The training must cover each of the officer’s financial duties, and be approved by the General Manager of the Fair Work Commission.
This page lists details of training courses approved by the Delegate of the General Manager and training provider contact details.
An organisation seeking to have training approved should send an outline of proposed training material to the Commission at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When preparing training material, an organisation should have regard to the list of topics that it is expected that the training will cover. See overview of expected training content (PDF).
The Commission will review the material to make sure it covers the topics outlined in the Overview of expected training content (PDF), including that it contains an evaluation component.
The organisation will be advised of the outcome of the review and (if required) invited to make additions or alterations and submit a revised copy of the training material.
Once the final material is reviewed, it will be forwarded to the Delegate of the General Manager for formal approval. A formal approval letter will be issued by the Delegate and sent to the organisation.
Details of the training package and the name of the provider will be published on the Commission's website. Approved training material ranges in duration from a full day to a day and a half, and this appears to be the timeframe required in order to cover the range of topics appropriately.
Please lodge all training material by email to email@example.com.
