In 2003 when the Women and the Commission exhibition was being developed, Senior Deputy President Jan Marsh presented this folder of national wage case decisions, along with a cartoon and a poster, to the Archives as a long-term loan.

This folder was part of a reference library used by Her Honour at the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) during her time there as Research Officer and Industrial Officer. When she was appointed to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission in 1988 the folder, along with other reference items, came with her to the tribunal. It contains copies of major wage related decisions, mainly national wage decisions, dating from 1949 to 1974. The industrial officers who put together the folder include:

  • Mr Bob Hawke, later President of the ACTU and Prime Minister of Australia from 1983 to 1991
  • Mr Ralph Willis, who held a number of ministerial portfolios in the Hawke and Keating Labor governments from 1983 to 1996, and
  • Mrs Jan Marsh, later a Senior Deputy President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

What makes this folder particularly significant are the text highlights and personal notes made in the margins by these prominent Australians.
