APPENDIX B - NORTHERN TERRITORY

The provisions of this appendix applies to employers and employees within the area of the Northern Territory who were previously bound by the Graphic Arts - General Interim -Award 1995.
The provisions of this appendix will be read and interpreted wholly in conjunction with the Graphic Arts Award and will operate as an appendix to the award and take precedence over any provision of the award to the extent of any inconsistency.
1. CASUAL EMPLOYEES
A casual employee must be engaged and paid for a minimum of three hours on each engagement.
2. DISTRICT ALLOWANCE
2.1 In addition to the wages prescribed in Part 5 of the award, the following district allowances will be paid to all adult employees in the following areas:
2.1.1 North of the 20th parallel of South Latitude - $16.60 per week;
2.1.2 South of the 20th parallel of South Latitude - $6.78 per week.
2.2 Part-time employees will receive district allowance on a pro rata basis. Such basis will be calculated as a fraction of 38 and applied to the district allowance.
2.3 Casual employees will receive per hour 1/38 of the district allowance.
2.4 Apprentices, junior artists and/or designers (including junior commercial artists) and non-apprenticed juniors will be paid the same percentages of district allowances as are fixed for their normal weekly wages.
2.5 No district allowance will be payable during annual or other leave.
3. HOURS OF WORK
3.1 Day Work - Spread of Hours
The ordinary hours of day work are to be worked in the spread of hours between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.
3.2 Shift Work
For the purposes of this appendix, the following definitions apply:-
3.2.1 Afternoon shift means any shift finishing after 6.30 p.m. and at or before midnight;
3.2.2 Night shift means:
3.2.2(a) any shift finishing after midnight and at or before 6.00 a.m. for non-continuous shift workers;
3.2.2(b) any shift finishing after midnight and at or before 8.00 a.m. for continuous shift workers;
3.2.3 Morning shift means any shift commencing at or after 4.00 a.m. and prior to 6.00 a.m.
4. MORNING TEA BREAK
Each employee will have an interval of fifteen minutes at a time fixed by the employer between the second and third hours of work after the ordinary commencing time of work, for a tea break.
5. PERSONAL LEAVE
5.1 Amount of paid personal leave
The amount of personal leave to which an employee is entitled depends on how long they worked for the employer and accrues as follows:-

5.2 Bereavement leave
Subject to this award, an employee on weekly hiring will be entitled to a maximum of 24 hours personal leave as bereavement leave without loss of pay on the terms set out in 7.2.5 of this award.
6. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
6.1 In addition to the holidays prescribed in 7.5 of this award, employees covered by this appendix will be entitled to the following holidays:
6.1.1 Union Picnic Day (1st Monday in August);
6.1.2 Show Day (on the day and in the locality in which it is gazetted).

6.2 Where an employee works on a public holiday as prescribed in this appendix or in 7.5 of the award, the employee must be paid time and a half for all time worked with a day off in lieu to be taken within fourteen days of the public holiday occurring.
