6.1 Retail Trade Employee Level 1A
This classification shall apply to Pharmacy Students.
6.2 Retail Trade Employee Level 1B
This classification shall apply to Pharmacy Trainees.
6.3 Retail Trade Employee Level 1C
6.3.1 This classification shall apply to employees performing duties of a general nature other than those elsewhere specified herein.
6.3.2 Indicative classifications:
6.3.2(a) Footwear Repairer/Key Cutter;
6.3.2(b) Gardeners responsible for the quality of their own work, working under routine supervision either individually or in a team environment and exercising discretion within their level of skills and training;
6.3.2(c) Nursery Labourer;
6.3.2(d) This classification shall also apply to all other employees not elsewhere classified in this sector.
6.4 Retail Trade Employee Level 2
6.4.1 This classification shall apply to employees working under direct supervision and the exercise of minimal judgement. Workers are usually in the process of acquiring or learning work related competencies including basic communication skills, numeracy, knowledge of quality assurance and occupational health and safety.
6.4.2 Indicative classifications:
6.4.2(a) Canteen worker
6.4.2(b) Restaurant employee (equivalent to Introductory Level in the Accommodation, Cafes and Restaurants Industry Sector Minimum Wage Order (Print P3852).
6.4.2(c) Vehicle Process Worker/Tradesperson’s Assistant.
6.5 Retail Trade Employee Level 3
6.5.1 This classification shall apply to employees performing work under direct supervision or guidance either individually or in a team environment. Work may be performed within established routines and procedures. Limited judgement would be expected to be applied within a defined range, such as repetition work on machinery or by hand, or assembly of components using basic instructions.
6.5.2 Indicative classifications:
6.5.2(a) Alteration Hand/Hand sewer;
6.5.2(b) Clothes presser;
6.5.2(c) Courtesy Car Driver;
6.5.2(d) Driveway Attendant;
6.5.2(e) Lubritorium Attendant (as per the expired Vehicle Building Industry Award);
6.5.2(f) Meat Packer/Cabinet Attendant;
6.5.2(g) Pastrycook Assistant;
6.5.2(h) Photographic Industry Employee;
6.5.2(i) Restaurant employee: (equivalent to Level 1 in the Accommodation, Cafes and Restaurants Industry Sector Minimum Wage Order (Print P3852).
6.6 Retail Trade Employee Level 4
6.6.1 This classification shall apply to employees working under supervision or in a team environment, possessing oral communication skills, having the ability to distinguish a minor fault or error, undertaking basic quality control of own work, having multiple manual skills, customer service skills and basic inventory skills.
6.6.2 Indicative classifications:
6.6.2(a) Alteration/Repair Hand;
6.6.2(b) Assembler in Vehicle Industry;
6.6.2(c) Cake Decorator/Pastry cook (non trade);
6.6.2(d) Certified Nursery person;
6.6.2(e) Cleaner/Building Attendant;
6.6.2(f) Cutter and Joiner (including picture frames);
6.6.2(g) Loader;
6.6.2(h) Metal Machinist;
6.6.2(i) Motor Driver’s Assistant;
6.6.2(j) Photographic Industry Operator;
6.6.2(k) Polisher;
6.6.2(l) Racquet Stringer;
6.6.2(m) Restaurant Employee (equivalent to Level 2 in the Accommodation, Cafes and Restaurants Industry Sector Minimum Wage Order (Print P3852);

6.7 Retail Trade Employee Level 5
6.7.1 This classification shall apply to employees performing work under routine supervision or general guidance either in a team or individually. Work would typically involve the exercise of judgement in relation to interrelated variables, and would include a level of autonomy for routine outcomes.
6.7.2 Indicative classifications:
6.7.2(a) Clerical Assistant required to generally assist others in the performance of a range of straightforward tasks and not being responsible for the work of others. Typical duties may involve: open, sort and deliver incoming mail; sort, file, photocopy and distribute documents; operate telephone/intercom systems, telephone answering machines and facsimile machines;
6.7.2(b) Detailer (as per the expired Vehicle Building Industry Award);
6.7.2(c) Driver of vehicle less than or equal to 4.5 tonnes GVM (including motorcycle);
6.7.2(d) Leading Loader;
6.7.2(e) Pharmacy Assistant (first 6 months experience);
6.7.2(f) Town Commercial Traveller.
6.8 Retail Trade Employee Level 6
6.8.1 This classification shall apply to employees exercising discretion within their level of skill and training, responsible for quality of their own work, possessing competent communication and written skills. Other duties may include inventory and store control, cash register and console operator skills, material handling skills, use of tools and equipment and the training of others.
6.8.2 Indicative classifications:
6.8.2(a) Brake Serviceperson;
6.8.2(b) Building/Lift Attendant;
6.8.2(c) Carpenter;
6.8.2(d) Console Operator;
6.8.2(e) Demonstrator;
6.8.2(f) Driver of a rigid vehicle more than 4.5 and up to 13.9 tonnes GVM;
6.8.2(g) Exhaust Repairer;
6.8.2(h) Forklift Driver (up to and including 5 tonnes lifting capacity);
6.8.2(i) Merchandiser;
6.8.2(j) Motor Vehicle Salesperson (less than 6 months experience);
6.8.2(k) Pastry cook Tradesperson;
6.8.2(l) Pharmacy Assistant, after 6 months;
6.8.2(m) Reserve Stockhand in Shop;

6.8.2(o) Retail Worker, being a shop assistant or salesperson;
6.8.2(p) Storeperson required to operate licensed materials handling equipment not exceeding 5 tonnes lifting capacity, use of tools and equipment within the work environment for the purpose of basic non-trades maintenance and VDU operation;
6.8.2(q) Tow Truck Driver (other)
6.8.2(r) Welder (non-trades).
6.9 Retail Trade Employee Level 7
6.9.1 This classification shall apply to employees working under supervision or in a team environment, within established methods and procedures and exercises discretion within their level of skill and training.
6.9.2 Indicative classifications:
6.9.2(a) Butcher, including Supermarket Butcher;
6.9.2(b) Clerical officer required to carry out general clerical and related work, including keyboard work. Work is usually performed in a team environment. Typical duties may involve, in addition to some or all of those clerical duties outlined in Retail Trade Employee Level 5: processing of standard documentation requiring no personal discretion, high volume data input, maintaining mail register and records and/or establish filing/records systems, providing straightforward typing/word processing support such as letters and memos and preparing standard regular reports;
6.9.2(c) Driver of 3 axle rigid vehicle exceeding 13.9 tonnes GVM;
6.9.2(d) Forklift Driver (over 5 and up to 10 tonnes lifting capacity);
6.9.2(e) Pharmacy Assistant having comprehensive product knowledge acquired through successful completion of formal structured training programs or on-the-job instruction over a period of 2 years;
6.9.2(f) Tailor.
6.10 Retail Trade Employee Level 8
6.10.1 This classification shall apply to employees working under general supervision or in a team environment which is related substantially to outcomes, works within established methods and procedures, and exercises discretion within their level of skill and training.
6.10.2 Indicative classifications:
6.10.2(a) Country Commercial Traveller;
6.10.2(b) Driver of articulated vehicle with 3 axles and GCM of less than or equal to 22.4 tonnes;
6.10.2(c) Driver of rigid vehicle and heavy trailer combination with 3 axles with GCM of less than or equal to 22.4 tonnes;
6.10.2(d) Forklift Driver (over 10 tonnes and up to 34 tonnes lifting capacity);
6.10.2(e) Pharmacy Assistant, exercising skills beyond those of a Retail Trade Employee Level 7;
6.10.2(f) Storeperson required to operate all licensed material handling equipment, uses a VDU for the purposes of maintaining a deposit storage system or information input/retrieval, development and refinement of a store layout and may supervise and be responsible for up to 10 people.
6.11 Retail Trade Employee Level 9
6.11.1 This classification shall apply to employees working under limited or no supervision or guidance, assisting with the on-the-job training, solving work planning problems, exercising quality control. Persons at this level will generally have completed and utilise an appropriate certificate course at a TAFE college or utilise skills and knowledge deemed to be equivalent.
6.11.2 Indicative classifications:
6.11.2(a) Cabinet maker;
6.11.2(b) Carpet layer;
6.11.2(c) Clerical Officer required to carry out more complex duties, or exercise greater discretion than the lower clerical grades in this structure. Work may involve a combination of clerical, secretarial and administrative functions. Typical duties may involve, in addition to some or all of those clerical duties outlined in Retail Trade Employee Level 7: taking dictation, type or word process a wide range of documents, operate a computer-based spread sheet, establish and maintain a filing system, check and reconcile information, general administrative and record keeping duties and other duties similar to those outlined at the Retail Trade Employee Level 7;
6.11.2(d) Cook (qualified);
6.11.2(e) Department Manager of a Retail Shop;
6.11.2(f) Driver of articulated vehicle with more than 3 axles and GCM of more than 22.4 tonnes;
6.11.2(g) Driver of a low loader;
6.11.2(h) Driver of rigid vehicle and heavy trailer combination with more than 3 axles and GCM greater than 22.4 tonnes;
6.11.2(i) Forklift Driver (over 34 tonnes lifting capacity);

6.11.2(s) Retail Worker not specifically provided for elsewhere in structure required to utilise the skills of a trades qualified person for the majority of the time in a week;
6.11.2(t) Storeperson who is responsible for the operations of a warehouse or large section thereof;
6.11.2(u) Tow Truck Driver (HSU);
6.11.2(v) Tradesperson (except as otherwise specified);
6.11.2(w) Upholsterer;
6.11.2(x) Vehicle Salesperson (thereafter);
6.11.2(y) Visual Merchandiser (that is an employee who: has a formal qualification equivalent to no less than a 2 year Certificate in Visual Merchandising; and has two years of experience in Visual Merchandising; and utilises Visual Merchandising for the majority of the time in a week as his or her principal duties).
6.12 Retail Trade Employee Level 10
6.12.1 This classification shall apply to employees exercising discretion within their level of skill and training.
6.12.2 Indicative classifications:
6.12.2(a) Manager of a Retail Shop;
6.12.2(b) Optical Tradesperson;
6.12.2(c) This classification shall also apply to employees exercising discretion within their level of skill and training and who may have limited responsibility for the work of others. These functions would be in addition to those clerical duties set out in Retail Employee Level 9.
6.13 Retail Trade Employee Level 11
6.13.1 This classification level relates to work requiring the application of professional scientific skills and knowledge of limited scope and complexity. In assisting a more senior professional scientist, the employee will draw upon advanced techniques and methods learned during and after the undergraduate degree.
6.13.2 The skills and knowledge required to perform at this level would be gained in an undergraduate three year degree or equivalent.
6.13.3 This level shall also be the entry point for employees employed as Professional Scientists.
6.13.4 This classification shall also apply to a Registered Pharmacist.
6.13.5 This classification also includes an Administrative Officer and the performance of clerical and administrative duties involving the responsibility and accountability for an employee's own work and in some cases, the work of a section or unit. Work at this level involves the exercise of initiative, discretion and judgement. Employees may be required to train other employees by means of personal instruction and demonstration.
6.14 Retail Trade Employee Level 12
6.14.1 This classification level relates to work requiring the application of professional engineering or scientific skills and knowledge of limited scope and complexity. Work would typically involve in a minor role in phases of a broader assignment. In assisting a more senior professional engineer or scientist, the employee will draw upon advanced techniques and methods learned during and after the undergraduate degree.
6.14.2 This level shall also be the entry point for employees employed as Professional Engineers.
6.14.3 The skills and knowledge required to perform work at this level would be gained in an undergraduate four or five year degree or equivalent.
