4.2.1 Notifying the employer about inability to attend work
(a) Employees agree to take reasonable steps to give timely advice, prior to the commencement of a shift, of their inability to attend work.
(b) Where an employee fails to notify the employer, except in the case of sound reason, within three hours prior to the commencement of a shift of their inability to attend work, such failure to notify may give cause to the employer to regard that absence from work as unauthorised.
4.2.2 Performing duties as directed
(a) An employer may direct an employee to carry out such duties as are reasonably with the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
(b) An employer may direct an employee to carry out such duties and use such tools and equipment as may be required provided that the employee has been properly trained in the use of such tools and equipment (where relevant).
(c) Any direction issued by an employer pursuant to clauses 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 shall be consistent with the employer's responsibilities to provide a safe and healthy working environment.
