13. WAGE RATES
(a) Trades Classifications
The following amounts shall be applied where appropriate for the purposes of the calculation in subclause (f) of this clause of the hourly rate to apply to daily hired employees.

Mobile Cranes Capacity Adjustment Formula
For each additional 40 tonnes over a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes an amount of $15.70 shall be added to the base rate for Operator Grade 4 and above.
(d) Civil Construction and Maintenance Workers
The following classifications and wage rates shall be paid to construction and maintenance workers engaged on work covered by subclause 3(c) of this award:

(e) Special Allowance
Employees in classifications set out in subclauses (a), (b) (c) and (d) of this clause shall be paid a special allowance of $7.70 to compensate for the following matters:
(i) Excess travelling time incurred by employees in the building and construction industry.
(ii) The removal of loadings from the various building industry awards consequent upon the introduction of 'paid rates' in the building industry.
(f) Hourly Rate Calculation - Tradespersons and Builders Labourers
(i) The calculation of the hourly rate shall take into account a factor of eight days in respect of the incidence of loss of wages for periods of unemployment between jobs.
(ii) For this purpose the hourly rate, calculated to the nearest cent, (less than half a cent to be disregarded) shall be calculated by multiplying the sum of the appropriate amounts prescribed in subclauses 13(a), 13(b), 20, 21 and 22 of this award, by fifty-two over fifty point four (52/50.4) rounded to the nearest cent, adding to that subtotal the special allowance prescribed in subclause 13(e) and dividing the total by 38. PROVIDED that in the case of a carpenter-diver, the divisor shall be 31, and for refractory bricklayers and their assistants the allowance contained in subclause 13(l) shall be added to the hourly rate.
(g) Weekly Rate Calculation - Plant Operators and Civil Construction Workers
The weekly rate for plant operators and civil construction workers employed in classifications contained in subclauses 13(c) and 13(d) shall be calculated by adding the appropriate amounts prescribed in subclauses 13(c), 13(d), 13(e), 13(h), 13(i), 13(k) and Clauses 20 and 21 of this award.
(h) Leading Hands
(i) This subclause shall apply to leading hands employed in a classification contained in subclauses 13(a), 13(b) and 13(c).
(ii) A person specifically appointed to be a leading hand shall be paid at the rate of the undermentioned hourly amounts above the hourly rates of the highest classification supervised, or the employees own rate, whichever is the highest in accordance with the number of persons in the employees charge.

(iii) For daily hire employees, the hourly rate prescribed herein is calculated to the nearest cent, less than half a cent to be disregarded, by multiplying the weekly base amount by 52 over fifty point four (52/50.4) and dividing by 38 and the said amount shall apply for all purposes of this award (PROVIDED that in the case of a carpenter-diver the divisor shall be 31).
(i) Leading Hands - Civil Construction and Maintenance Workers
An employee in a classification contained in subclause 13(d) who is appointed by the employer as a Leading Hand and who is responsible for directing and supervising the work of other employees shall be paid an allowance of:

(j) Foreperson
In addition to the rates prescribed in this clause a foreperson in charge of a complete project shall be paid not less than $18.80 per day extra.
(k) In Charge of Plant Allowance
‘In charge of plant’ - an employee engaged in a classification contained in subclauses 13(c) and 13(d) who is in charge of plant, which shall mean:
(i) when two or more employees are employed at the plant at the one time, the employee who is invested with the superintendence and responsibility or who has to accept the superintendence and responsibility; or
(ii) an employee who is invested with the superintendence and responsibility or who has to accept the superintendence and responsibility over one or more other employees; or
(iii) when the employee is the only person of that class employed on the plant the employee who does the general repair work of the plant in addition to the work of operating, but not when the employee merely assists a fitter or engineer to do such work; or
(iv) where shifts are worked the employee who is directed to carry out the general repair work of the plant in addition to the work of operating, but not when the employee merely assists a fitter or engineer to do such work;
shall be paid an additional amount of $28.10 per week.
(l) Refractory Work
(i) Application
This subclause shall apply to employers with respect to employees engaged in the construction, alteration or repairs to:
(1) Boilers, flues, furnaces, retorts, kilns, ovens, ladles and similar refractory work;
(2) Acid furnaces, acid stills, acid towers and all other acid resisting brickwork.
(ii) Refractory Bricklaying Allowance
A special allowance to compensate for disabilities associated with the work of refractory bricklaying shall be paid as follows:

This allowance shall be paid in lieu of all special rates prescribed in Clause 26 of this award except subclauses 26(c) and 26(d), and shall be regarded as part of the wage rate for all purposes of the award.
(iii) Apprentices
An apprentice refractory bricklayer shall be paid the appropriate percentage, as prescribed by subclause 48(b), of the wage rates and allowances prescribed by subclauses 18(a) and 18(l) of this award.
