20. CLASSIFICATIONS
20.1 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 1
20.1.1 Skills and qualifications
[20.1.1 varied by R6246 from 21Apr99]
- a tradesperson who has completed an apprenticeship in a single aircraft avionic trade; or
- a base trade engineer (avionic) who has successfully completed his/her relevant stream of the Aircraft Industry Conversion Course and has demonstrated during his/her probation the capability to work on avionic equipment in either the electrical, instrument or radio fields; or
- a tradesperson who has equivalent aircraft industry experience outlined above.
20.1.2 Workscope
20.1.2(a) works under close supervision to the full limit of his/her trade skills, training and experience in either the repair, overhaul, modification, testing or calibration of avionics in aircraft or aircraft components or ground support equipment;
20.1.2(b) exercises the avionic skill flexibilities - level 1 as applicable to the employee's area of duty as provided in 4.7 as applicable to the area of duties, to Aircraft Industry standards.
20.2 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 2
20.2.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
- has completed an apprenticeship in an aircraft avionic multi-skilled trade category; or
- has successfully completed an Avionic Multi-skilling or Skill Enhancement Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses.
20.2.2 Workscope
20.2.2(a) works under limited technical supervision to the full limit of his/her trade skills, training and experience in either the repair, overhaul, modification, testing or calibration of avionics in aircraft or aircraft components or ground support equipment including multi-skilling; and/or
20.2.2(b) exercises the avionic skill flexibilities - level 1 and avionic skill flexibilities - level 2 as set out in 4.7 and 4.8 as applicable to the employee's area of duty.
20.3 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 3
20.3.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
- has successfully completed an Avionic Multi-skilling or Skill Enhancement Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses as an AME (avionic) grade 2; or
- is undertaking appropriate post-trades studies prescribed in clause 34 - Training and Training Courses, at an approved technical institution and has successfully completed a course as an AME (avionic) grade 2.
20.3.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 2.
20.4 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 4
20.4.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
20.4.1(a) has successfully completed an Avionic Multi-skilling or Skill Enhancement Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses as an AME (avionic) grade 3; or
20.4.1(b) is undertaking appropriate post-trades studies prescribed in clause 34 - Training and Training Courses at an approved technical institution and has successfully completed a course as an AME (avionic) grade 3; or
20.4.1(c) has successfully completed the first year of an appropriate Engineering Certificate/Associate Diploma prescribed in clause 34 - Training and Training Courses at an approved technical institution.
20.4.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 2.
20.5 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 5
20.5.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
20.5.1(a) is undertaking appropriate post-trades studies prescribed in clause 34 - Training and Training courses at an approved technical institution and has successfully completed a course as an AME (avionic) grade 4; or
20.5.1(b) has successfully completed the second year of an appropriate Engineering Certificate/Associate Diploma in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses at an approved technical institution; or
20.5.1(c) has successfully completed an in-house Avionic Skill Enhancement Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses as an AME (avionic) grade 4.
20.5.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 2.
20.6 Aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 6
20.6.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
20.6.1(a) is undertaking appropriate post-trade studies in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses, at an approved technical institution and has successfully completed a further course as an AME (avionic) grade 5; or
20.6.1(b) has successfully completed the third year of an appropriate Engineering Certificate/Associate Diploma in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses, at an approved technical institution; or
20.6.1(c) has successfully completed an in-house avionic skill enhancement course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses as an AME (avionic) grade 5.
20.6.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (avionic) grade 2
20.7 Aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1
20.7.1 Skills and qualifications
A tradesperson who:
- has completed an apprenticeship in an aircraft mechanical trade; or
- is a base trade engineer who has completed and passed his/her relevant stream of the Aerospace Industry Conversion Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses; and
- has demonstrated the capability to work on aircraft, aircraft engines, aircraft components or ground support equipment in any one of the mechanical trades (as defined).
20.7.2 Workscope
- works to the full limit of his or her trade skills, training, experience, and qualifications;
- undertakes tasks and training at a higher level for development; and
- is able and prepared to apply mechanical skill flexibilities - level 1 in 4.18 or avionic skill flexibilities - Level 1 in 4.7.
20.8 Aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 2
20.8.1 Skills and qualifications
An aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1 who has:
20.8.1(a) successfully completed a mechanical skill enhancement course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1, in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training courses; or
20.8.1(b) successfully completed a mechanical multi-skilling course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1 in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses, in a trade stream other than his or her aircraft base trade stream.
20.8.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1.
20.9 Aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 3
20.9.1 Skills and qualifications
An aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 2 who has:
- successfully completed a mechanical skill enhancement course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 2; or
- successfully completed a mechanical multi-skilling course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 2 in accordance with clause 34, Training and Training Courses, in a trade stream other than his or her aircraft base trade stream.
20.9.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1 and is prepared to exercise mechanical skill flexibilities in 4.18 and 4.19.
20.10 Aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 4
20.10.1 Skills and qualifications
An aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 3 who has:-
20.10.1(a) successfully completed a mechanical skill enhancement course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 3 in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses; or
20.10.1(b) successfully completed a mechanical multi-skilling course as an aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 3 in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses, in a trade stream other than his or her aircraft base trade stream.
20.10.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) grade 1, and is prepared to exercise mechanical skill flexibilities in 4.18 and 4.19.
20.11 Aircraft maintenance trimmer grade 1
20.11.1 Skills and qualifications
A base trade trimmer who:
- has completed and passed his/her relevant stream of the Aerospace Industry Conversion Course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses; and
- has demonstrated the capability to work on aircraft, aircraft components or ground support equipment in the vehicle trade.
20.11.2 Workscope
- works to the full limit of his/her trade skill, training, experience and qualifications;
- undertakes tasks and training at a higher level for development; and
- is able and prepared to apply skill flexibilities as required.
20.12 Aircraft maintenance trimmer grade 2
20.12.1 Skills and qualifications
An Aircraft maintenance trimmer grade 1 who has:
- successfully completed an appropriate skill enhancement course; or
- successfully completed an appropriate mechanical multi-skilling course in accordance with clause 34 - Training and Training Courses, in a trade stream other than his/her base trade stream.
20.12.2 Workscope
As per aircraft maintenance trimmer grade 2.
20.13 Aircraft worker level 1
20.13.1 An adult person who is:
- a trainee fabric machinist; or
- engaged in aircraft and other cleaning activities, including but not limited to basic aircraft cleaning; cleaning floors and work areas; removal of aircraft seat covers and curtains; washing parts; paint stripping; and other similar processes.
20.14 Aircraft worker level 2
20.14.1 An adult person who works on activities including, but not limited to:
- exterior aircraft washing (including use of lifting equipment);
- all cabin cleaning and dressing tasks;
- water servicing;
- specialised cleaning processes;
- fitting, sorting and identifying seat covers and curtains;
- making and repairing fabric components using templates or precut materials;
- erection and dismantling of scaffolding not requiring a DIRE certificate;
- repetitive maintenance tasks (including cabin maintenance); and
- other similar processes.
20.15 Aircraft worker level 3
An adult person who works under limited technical supervision on specialised processes, including but not limited to:
- toilet servicing;
- residual spray;
- carpet maintenance;
- making and modifying patterns and templates;
- cutting matching and sewing fabric;
- inspection testing and packaging of life jackets; and
- other similar processes.
20.16 Aircraft worker level 4
20.16.1 An adult person who works under limited technical supervision on specialised processes, including but not limited to:
- heavy machining work;
- general maintenance of rafts and slides;
- moulding and forming of vinyl; and
- assisting with equipment repair.
20.16.2 Vacancy is required for this level.
20.17 Airline catering service attendant level 1
20.17.1 An employee who is able to follow both written and verbal instructions; is required to perform general tasks in the preparation and presentation of equipment and food handling, including, but not limited to:
- the handling of any catering, with due regard to quality, hygiene and safety;
- the accurate make up of carts and food trays associated with the catering of an aircraft requiring the tallying of items, their checking off and recording of details as required;
- basic operation of foodstuffs with due regard to quality, hygiene and safety;
- reporting damage to equipment, cutlery, crockery and buildings;
- basic use of knives and machinery;
- use of two way radios, access data in computer and recording of information as required;
- all functions associated with the general cleaning of all work and scullery areas of the kitchen;
- ensuring a minimum hygiene standard by food production garbage removal and distribution of hygiene equipment;
- plating of economy class food in cold preparation areas and hot food packing areas, using either belt or table operations;
- providing buffet food service in Ground Catering, including attending to and serving from a bain marie and/or salad bar.
20.17.2 An employee who:
- adheres to food safety and quality assurance standards and procedures;
- is available for additional training to enable higher duty activities to be undertaken as required;
- is available for deployment in any work area or work centre on a part or whole of shift basis where required for operational demand.
- To progress to Airline Catering Services Attendant Level 2, the employee must successfully apply for a vacant position at that level.
20.18 Airline catering services attendant level 2
An employee required to perform under reduced supervision both general and specialist skills on a regularly rostered basis in the preparation and presentation of equipment and foodstuffs.
20.18.1 Skills and qualifications
- demonstrated ability to meet all requirements of a Level 1 Catering Services Attendant and continue to perform those duties as required.
- ability to use skills and knowledge to enhance the quality of performance and productivity.
- specialised skills exceeding those held by an airline catering services attendant level 2 which directly support the achievement of operational and commercial objectives.
20.18.2 Workscope
- use of automated computer aids to assist in the handling and control of items of food and equipment and the recording of information as required;
- availability for deployment in any work area or work centre on a part or whole of shift basis.
20.18.3 To progress to Airline Catering Services Attendant Level 3, the employee must successfully apply for a vacant position at that level.
20.19 Airline catering services attendant level 3
An employee who is expected and required to perform the functions of a Level 1 and 2 Catering Services Attendant and to be proficient in all work requirements of those levels.
20.19.1 Skills and qualifications
- complete knowledge of airline equipment requirements, stowage and food presentations;
- complete and extensive knowledge of various specialist work areas (minimum of 2).
20.19.2 Workscope
Duties and requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring techniques/efficiency/safe handling;
- modifying performance in accordance with Company procedures; and
- making recommendations on all aspects of the operation, seeking to improve performance and productivity.
- ensuring the Catering and Quality Assurance procedure, regulations and safety standards are followed by staff.
- enforcing State established regulations and local standards pertaining to hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- demonstrating leadership, decision making and organised skills necessary to efficiently meet performance requirements in a changing work environment;
- making recommendations on all aspects of the operation, seeking to identify opportunities to improve performance and productivity.
- various administrative and reporting duties;
- skilled use of knives and machinery.
- implementation of directions given by Supervisory Chef and Management staff.
- providing raw material preparation and cooking assistance to Chefs;
- repetitive use of special purpose, pre-adjusted or automated cooking equipment not requiring the possession or use of trades skill or knowledge;
- training staff in job functions and culinary skills (including job safety, use of machinery and chemicals);
- reconciling cash register takings;
- providing advanced table service where required for formal Company banquets and functions;
- maintaining quality control checks of finished product ensuring food is to specification and correct presentation.
20.20 Avionics tradesperson
A person who holds a valid Australian trades certificate in one of the following trades: electrical, electronic, instrument, radio or aircraft electronics maintenance.
20.21 Base trade engineer
A mechanical tradesperson or an avionics tradesperson who:
- has completed the Qantas Engineering & Maintenance Line Operations Course; and
- works to the limit of his or her trade qualification under close technical supervision; and
- undertakes training as required for development.
20.22 Base trade trimmer
A vehicle or furnishing trade upholstering tradesperson who:
- has completed the Qantas Engineering and Maintenance Line Operations Course;
- works to the limit of his/her trade qualification under close technical supervision; and
- undertakes training as required for development.
20.23 Carpenter and joiner
A tradesperson engaged:
- upon construction work, including erection, repair, ornamentation, demolition or any other forms of such work; and
- upon the making, preparing and fixing of all necessary woodwork required in a factory.
20.24 Chef
20.24.1 A tradesperson who must complete a six month probation period and undergo airline catering orientation in the fields of:
- portion control;
- menu specification;
- basic Automated System for Producing Inflight Catering (ASPIC) system use;
- the role of each Food Production section.
20.24.2 Following successful completion of the probationary period, a chef then qualifies to Chef Level 1.
20.25 Chef level 1
A tradesperson who:
- has completed the base training or equivalent airline experience and probationary period;
- is multi-skilled and works in all areas of food production dependent on production requirements;
- performs general and specialised duties; and
- supervises and trains other kitchen staff.
20.26 Chef level 2
20.26.1 A tradesperson who:
- has successfully worked in Chef level 1;
- has completed a recognised post trade course in at least one specialised skill area (as defined by the Chef de Partie areas agreed between the Company and the relevant union from time to time).
20.26.2 A Chef level 2 must relieve in and perform as Demi-Chef or in level 1 functions as required.
20.26.3 No restrictions on position availability apply.
20.27 Chef level 3 (demi chef)
20.27.1 A tradesperson who:
- has successfully worked in Chef level 1 and Chef level 2;
- has completed a recognised post trade course in at least two specialised skill areas (as defined by Chef de Partie areas agreed between the Company and the relevant Union from time to time);
- trains and supervises staff in areas of their specialist skill.
20.27.2 A Chef level 3 must relieve in and perform as Chef de Partie and all Chef level 1 and Chef level 2 functions as required.
20.27.3 Promotion to Chef level 3 is on application for an available vacancy.
20.28 Chef level 4 (Chef de Partie)
20.28.1 A Chef de Partie is in charge of a particular specialised section existing in the Flight Catering Centre from time to time; performs all Chef level 1, Chef level 2 and Chef level 3 functions; performs functions including, but not limited to:
- stock rotation
- work allocation
- training on equipment (safety and use)
- training of staff and apprentices
- quality control on processed and raw material
- maintaining production schedules
- communicating with all areas
- maintaining specification to the required standards
- maintaining hygiene standards
- maintain neat and tidy work and stores areas.
20.28.2 Promotion to Chef level 4 is on selection for an available vacancy.
20.29 Electronic and instrument fitter
A tradesperson of the trade category of electrical or radio or instruments:
- who has completed the first and second year of a post trade or certificate course on electronics at a recognised technical college or who, in the opinion of the Company, has equivalent training and experience in advanced electronic work; and
- who is required to work on the testing, overhaul or calibration of electronic units other than those for aircraft.
20.30 Fabric worker - first class
An adult employee who:
- performs the duties of a fabric worker - second class;
- may be required to perform the duties of seamster, tailor;
- makes or modifies patterns/templates from drawings or sketches;
- cuts, matches and sews fabric;
- repairs coverings or components by hand or machine;
- inspects, tests by instrument and packages of life jackets.
20.31 Fabric worker - second class
An adult employee engaged in:
- making and/or repairing coverings or components of linen, cotton or light fabrics by machine or by hand with the aid of templates or from pre-cut materials; or
- pruning, doping, or taping fabric coverings or components.
20.32 Ground engineer mechanical
20.32.1 A tradesperson engaged on work in the servicing, inspection, maintenance, modification, repair and/or overhaul of any aircraft, aircraft component or parts of components, or other associated work undertaken by the Company, in one or more of the following trade categories:
- engines;
- airframe;
- structural;
- sheet metal;
- fitting and turning;
- toolmaker;
- welder special class A;
- electroplater class 1;
- plant mechanic;
- fitter;
- aircraft maintenance engineer
20.32.2 A ground engineer must perform the work prescribed in this clause at any cost centre, location, workshop or hangar utilised by the Company.
20.32.3 A ground engineer must be classified by the Company as either grade 1, grade 2 or grade 3. The numbers within the higher classifications are at the Company's discretion and in accordance with the Company's requirements.
20.32.4 A ground engineer engaged in sheet metal work grade 1 and grade 2 must, however, have completed an apprenticeship in aircraft sheetmetal work or possess the equivalent industrial training and/or experience.
20.33 LAME Grade I
A LAME or a LAME radio who:
- is employed on aircraft maintenance;
- has completed the Company LAME Induction Course;
- is required to carry out skill flexibilities appropriate to his/her area of duty;
- in the case of a LAME, holds ratings on group 1 or 2 aircraft / engines; and
- in the case of a LAME radio, holds a basic licence with ratings covering groups 1, 2, 3, and 4.
20.34 LAME Grade II
A LAME or a LAME radio who:
- is employed on aircraft maintenance;
- has completed the Company LAME Induction Course;
- is required to carry out skill flexibilities appropriate to his/her area of duty; and
- in the case of a LAME, holds ratings on group 3/20, 21 aircraft/engines; and
- in the case of a LAME radio, holds a basic licence with ratings on groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
20.35 LAME Grade III Level A
A LAME or a LAME radio grade II who:
- is employed on aircraft maintenance;
- has completed the Company LAME Induction Course;
- is required to carry out skill flexibilities appropriate to his/her area of duty;
- holds and exercises a pre-flight authority in all categories on any of the following aircraft or engines which are maintained by the Company: C130, B707, DC8, B747-100, B747-200, B747-300, B747 SP, B747 Combi, DC10, P&W JT9D Engine, RR RB211 Engine.
- in the case of a LAME, holds ratings on group 3/20, 21 aircraft/engines;
- in the case of a LAME radio grade II, holds a basic licence with ratings covering groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 and exercises his/her authority on group 20 aircraft listed above.
20.36 LAME Grade III Level B
A LAME or LAME radio grade II who:
- is employed on aircraft maintenance;
- has completed the Company LAME Induction Course;
- is required to carry out skill flexibilities appropriate to his/her area of duty;
- holds and exercises a Pre-Flight Authority in all categories on the B767-200 or B767-300.
- in the case of a LAME, holds ratings on group 3/20, 21 aircraft/engines.
- in the case of a LAME radio grade II, holds a basic licence with ratings covering groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 and exercises his/her preflight authority on group 20 aircraft listed above.
20.37 Leading hand (airline catering service attendant):
20.37.1 A level 2 or 3 Airline Catering Services Attendant who is appointed as such and who may be required to:
- ensure that productivity and performance criteria are met in the designated area of responsibility (including fulfilling regular performance assessment reports of staff supervised);
- be responsible for the control, supervision and/or training of new and current staff and assessment of their performance;
- co-ordinate manpower allocation (including overtime and sickness cover) in consultation with the supervisor to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
20.37.2 The employee must be able to communicate clearly and issue instructions appropriately.
20.38 Maintenance assistant grade 1
An adult person who is engaged in, or in connection with, the maintenance activities of the Company, including but not limited to:
- directly assisting a tradesperson;
- dismantling;
- washing parts;
- paint stripping;
- acid washing; and
- processes of a like nature.
20.39 Maintenance assistant grade 2
An adult person who works under limited technical supervision on:
- specialised surface processes;
- harness making;
- grit blasting (including masking and demasking);
- repetitive maintenance processes of low technical complexity involving simple tools; and
- processes of like nature.
20.40 Maintenance assistant grade 3
An adult person who works under limited technical supervision on specialised processes including:
- aircraft and engine parts lubrication;
- instrument dial painting;
- rigging;
- shot peening; and
- assisting with equipment repair involving simple tools.
20.41 Mechanical tradesperson
A person who holds a valid Australian trades certificate in one of the following trades:
- Airframe
- Engine
- Sheet metal
- Fitting and/or machining
- Diesel mechanic (including marine engineers)
- Fitter - general
- Motor mechanics
- Refrigeration mechanic
- Toolmaker
- Electroplater
- Plant mechanic
- Aircraft mechanical trades
20.42 Mechanical tradesperson - special class (non-aircraft)
20.42.1 Workscope
A mechanical tradesperson who:
- is regularly engaged in any combination of installing, repairing and maintaining, testing, modifying, commissioning or fault finding on complex machinery and equipment which utilises hydraulic and/or pneumatic principles;
- in the course of such work, is required to read and understand hydraulic and/or pneumatic circuitry which controls fluid power systems.
20.42.2 Skills and qualifications
20.42.2(a) has a minimum of two years on-the-job experience as a tradesperson working predominantly on fluid power systems to enable the tradesperson to perform such work under minimum supervision and technical guidance; and
20.42.2(b) has satisfactorily completed a prescribed post-trades course or has achieved a comparable standard of skill and knowledge by other means (including in-plant training or on-the-job experience referred to in 20.42.2(a)) to the satisfaction of the Company.
20.43 Motor mechanic
A tradesperson employed in repairing, altering, overhauling, assembling (except for the first time in Australia) or testing metal or electrical parts of the engine or chassis of motor cars, motor cycles or other motor vehicles.
20.44 Process worker
An adult employee for whom a specific marginal rate is not otherwise prescribed, and who is engaged in:
- repetition work on any automatic, semiautomatic or single-purpose machine; or any machine fitted with jigs, gauges or other tools rendering operations mechanical.
- The employee is not responsible for the setting up of the machine nor for the dimensions of the products other than by checking which gauges are either unadjustable or if adjustable, are not to be set by the operator.
- the assembling of parts of mechanical appliances or other metallic articles so made, in which no fitting or adjustment requiring skill is required; or
- specialised processes not requiring the use of hand tools (except hammers, screw-drivers or spanners) in or in connection with manufacturing.
20.45 Refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic
A tradesperson engaged in the installation, alteration, replacement, servicing, repair and testing of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems or any component parts of such systems.
20.46 Storeperson - level 1
A person who undergoes basic training and works under supervision and training in performing core functions. Core functions are:
- Driving company vehicles;
- Housekeeping and general cleaning;
- Identification of stocks/freight;
- Fork-lift driving;
- Binning functions - individually storage of freight;
- Basis materials issue;
- Operation of packing equipment;
- Basic keyboard data entry;
- Receipt of goods;
- Operating communication equipment;
- Unloading and loading sea and air containers.
20.47 Storeperson - level 2
20.47.1 An employee who is proficient in all core functions and the following areas under general supervision:
- Acquittal of supply enquiry demands;
- Materials credits;
- Materials issues;
- Preparation of aircraft bars and dry stores;
- Issuing and receiving frozen kitchen foodstuffs;
- Packing and assembly;
- Turrent truck operations;
- Assisting stocktakes;
- Loading of freight (stationery);
- Fork-lift driving licence.
20.47.2 An employee who undergoes training in the following areas:
- Dangerous goods awareness;
- Customs and quarantine requirements;
- Basic superqic system;
- Safety training;
- Acquittal of documentation;
- Component control operation awareness;
- ETV training.
20.48 Storeperson - level 3
20.48.1 A person who works under limited supervision as well as being proficient in the following advanced functions:
- Advanced function;
- Component control repair delay;
- Operate superqic;

- Load distribution and restraint training;
- ULD serviceability standards;
- Competent keyboard skills;
- Warehousing skills;
- Despatch of telexes and faxes;
- Accountable document picking (stationery);
- RAAF operations and/or systems;
- Advanced safety training (flammable stores);
- Customs and bar documentation and customer stock returns.
20.49 Storeperson - level 4
20.49.1 A person who undertakes duties associated with staff control and supervision as well as performing the following functions:
- Training to levels 1, 2 and 3;
- Component control listening post;
- Line station receipts of engineering materials/loan items;
- Despatch and documentation of outside repair items;
- Control of clients stocks;
- Control of modification kit operation;
- Ensuring all relevant Australian customs procedures/quarantine regulations are met;
- Raising customs and bar documentation and customer stock returns satellite stores operation;
- all level 1, 2 and 3 functions;
- investigating and reconciling shortage items;
- Telexes and facsimile operation;
- Control and handling of under bond saleable amenities.
20.49.2 A person undergoes training as follows:
- Company supervisory course;
- ER/IR course;
- Roster and manpower allocation awareness;
- Counselling and appraisals awareness;
- Australian Customs procedures and quarantine regulations;
- Pooling procedures to engineering for other operators.
20.50 Storeperson - level 5
20.50.1 A person who performs the following tasks:
- undertakes duties associated with shift control;
- allocates manpower and equipment;
- monitors staff performance;
- Controls client stocks for engineering;
- Interprets aircraft manuals and customer working instructions;
- Organises space on aircraft to dispatch company stores worldwide;
- Certifies documentation to IATA regulations;
- Training to levels 1, 2, 3 and 4;
- Airway bill production and cargo reservations via the Qantac system.
20.50.2 undergoes training as follows:
- IATA Dangerous Goods Course;
- Human Resource Management Course;
- Development of stores layout;
- Rosters and manpower allocation.
20.51 Toolmaker
A tradesperson who:
- makes and/or repairs any precision tool, gauge, jig or die;
- designs or lays out his or her work, and
- is responsible for its proper completion.
20.52 Tradesperson's assistant
An adult worker who:
- is employed directly assisting a tradesperson; or
- engaged in dismantling, washing parts or paint stripping.
