21.1 Special rates
21.1.1 Special rates not cumulative
Where more than one of the disabilities set out in 21.1 entitles an employee to extra rates, the Company is only bound to pay one rate, namely the highest for the appropriate disabilities.
21.1.2 The following allowances are cumulative. If any, two or more of the disabilities occur at the same time: cold places, confined spaces, dirty work, height money, hot places and wet places, the rates for which are cumulative.
21.1.3 Special rates not subject to penalty rates
The allowances are not subject to penalty rates for overtime, Sunday work, holiday pay or shift work.
21.1.4 Clean-room allowance

If an employee is required to work in the avionics clean-room, the employee must be paid an allowance of 47 cents per hour whilst so engaged.
21.1.5 Cold places

If an employee works for more than one hour in places where the temperature is reduced by artificial means below 0°C, the employee must be paid an allowance of 47 cents per hour. If the work continues for more than two hours, the employee must be given a rest period of twenty minutes every two hours without loss of pay.
21.1.6 Cold-store allowance - flight catering centre

If a storeperson is required to enter cold storage rooms in the performance of his or her duties in the flight catering centre, the storeperson must be paid an allowance of $13.97 per week.
21.1.7 Confined space

If an employee works in a confined space, the employee must be paid an allowance of 59 cents per hour for each hour so engaged. A confined space is:

If an employee is required to work in oil or acid tanks or on any work which the foreperson agrees is of an unusually dirty or offensive nature, the employee must be paid an allowance of 48 cents per hour so engaged.
21.1.9 Fuel tanks

If an employee is required to perform work inside fuel tanks of aircraft in circumstances where the regulations prescribe that a mask must be worn, the employee must be paid an allowance of 90 cents per hour so engaged.
21.1.10 Height money

If an employee works at a height of fifteen metres or more directly above the nearest horizontal plane, the employee must be paid an allowance of 36 cents per hour so engaged.
21.1.11 Hot places

If an employee works for more than one hour in the shade in places where the temperature is raised by artificial means to:
If the work continues for more than two hours in temperatures exceeding 54°C, the employee must be given a rest period of twenty minutes after every two hours work without deduction of pay. The temperature must be decided by the foreperson of the work after consultation with the employees who claim the extra rate.
21.1.12 Insulwool

If an employee, while employed on maintenance of aircraft, handles loose material, the employee must be paid an allowance of 57 cents per hour so engaged. Loose material means loose slag wool, loose insulwool or other loose silicate material of a like nature, but does not mean material which is in a woven, felted or similarly treated form.
21.1.13 Night soil

If an employee is required to handle and/or dispose of night soil, the employee must be paid an allowance of $3.94 per day or part of the day upon which the employee is so employed.
21.1.14 Spar washing

If an employee is required to wear protective equipment whilst engaged in the sanding or spray painting of aircraft in hangars, the employee must be paid an allowance of $1.16 per hour while so engaged.
21.1.16 Wet places

If an employee works in any place where the employee's clothing or boots become saturated by water, oil or otherwise, the employee must be paid an allowance of 48 cents per hour for each part of the day or shift the employee is required to work in wet clothing or boots. The allowance is not payable if the Company provides the employee with suitable protective clothing and/or footwear.
21.1.17 Lead burning

If an employee is required to work at lead burning or at lead work associated with lead burning, the employee must be paid an allowance of 62 cents per hour so engaged.
21.2 Disability allowance
21.2.1 If significant disabilities occur for a period of two weeks or more because of construction, reconstruction, alteration, major repair or other like work at or in the immediate vicinity of the premises in which the employees are required to work, the union may claim the following allowance on behalf of affected employees, to be paid from the date of the union's application:

21.2.1(a) if the construction work involves excessive fumes, noise and dust or other disabilities through construction vehicles, drilling, electric saws and jack hammering, form work and concrete pours, 62 cents per hour;

21.2.1(b) if the construction work involves noise and dust or other like disabilities to a limited degree due to alterations and/or the removal or installation of plant and machinery and a marked reduction in work space, 36 cents per hour.
21.2.2 The allowance must not be included with the wage rates for all purposes of the award.
21.2.3 These amounts must be reviewed regularly. If, upon review, the parties are unable to reach agreement, the matter must be referred to the Commission for determination.
21.3 All purpose allowances
The following allowances apply for all purposes of the award:

If an employee is required to hold and exercise a liquefied petroleum gas installer's licence issued by the LP Gas Licensing Committee, Dangerous Goods Branch of the New South Wales Department of Industrial Relations, the employee must be paid an allowance of $13.33 per week. This allowance is payable for all purposes of the Award and is subject to adjustment when calculating payment for shift penalty rates, weekend or holiday work and overtime.
21.3.2 Electrician licence

If an employee is required to act on the employee's electrician licence, the employee must be paid an allowance of $21.48 per week.
21.3.3 Leading hands - additional weekly rate

Tradespeople (other than carpenters and plumbers) must be paid a tool allowance of $14.76 per week. Apprentices must be paid this tool allowance on a pro rata basis calculated by reference to the proportion of their weekly rate of pay to the tradesperson's weekly rate of pay. The employee will be required to replace or pay for any tools provided by the Company which are lost or destroyed through his/her negligence. If a carpenter or plumber is required to supply tools, the employee must be paid an allowance of $24.97 per week. Employees must provide such tools where it was the custom and practice to provide those tools as at 1 January 1980.
21.4 Other allowances

If an employee is required to hold, and holds, an appropriate first aid qualification as determined by the Company, the employee must be paid an allowance of $10.69 per week.
21.4.2 Cargo handling system

If a storeperson is required to assume responsibility for the operation of an automated cargo handling system, the employee must be paid an allowance of $12.96 per week.

If a plumber is required to perform maintenance work on a roof (or similar structure) that contains asbestos, the plumber must be paid an allowance of 67 cents per hour.
