22. PAYMENT OF SALARIES

22.1 Period and method of payment

22.1.1 Salaries/wages shall be paid weekly, fortnightly, four weekly, monthly, half monthly or in accordance with existing practices.

22.1.2 Salaries/wages shall be paid, either:

22.1.2(a) according to the average number of ordinary hours worked per pay period; or

22.1.2(b) by agreement with either the majority of employees or with an individual employee according to the actual ordinary hours worked each pay period; or

22.1.3 Salaries/wages shall be paid by cash, cheque or to the credit of the employee's account in a bank or other recognised financial institution.

22.2 Payment of wages on termination of employment

Upon termination of the employment, salaries/wages due to an employee shall be paid to him/her on the day of such termination or forwarded to him/her by post on the next working day.

22.3 Day off coinciding with pay day

Where an employee is paid salary/wages by cash or cheque and the employee is, by virtue of the arrangement of their ordinary hours, to take a day off on a day which coincides with pay day, such employee must be paid no later than the working day immediately following pay day. However, if the employer is able to make suitable arrangements, the salary/wages may be paid on the working day preceding pay day.

22.4 Salaries to be paid during working hours

Where salaries/wages are paid in cash, such payment shall be made during normal working hours.
