PART 5 – RATES OF PAY AND RELATED MATTERS
20. CLASSIFICATIONS
Group 1 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs the work of cleaning, general yard labouring, assisting on motor vehicles, brush hand painting, assisting trades persons, concrete working or any other duties of a similar nature on which an employee is engaged.
Group 2 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs the work of spray painting, gas cylinder filling, gas cylinder delivery (provided that if the size of the vehicle which they operate attracts a higher rate of pay they will be paid that higher rate), gas cylinder testing, forklift operating, driving of tractor with power operated attachments, store-keeping or any other duties of a similar nature on which an employee is engaged, together with a knowledge of the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.
Group 3 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs the work of gas cylinder delivering together with changing, leak testing, re-lighting and associated functions (provided that if the size of the vehicle which they operate attracts a higher rate of pay they will be paid that higher rate), mobile crane driving and any other duties of a similar nature on which an employee is engaged, together with a knowledge of the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.
Group 4 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability that is greater than that of an employee classified under Group 3 but does not have the knowledge and ability of a tradesperson. This determination will be at the sole discretion of the employer.
Group 5 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs the work of motor vehicle driving, together with a knowledge of the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.

Group 6 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs clerical work, or any other duties of a similar nature, together with a knowledge of the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.
Group 7 refers to -
Any tradesperson who has completed a recognised apprenticeship in the trade in which they are employed, who in the performance of their duties is required to possess the requisite qualifications, knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs the work of a plumber and/or gas fitter, motor mechanic, fitter, turner, welder, or such other trades or combination of trades as required by the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.
Group 8 refers to -
An employee who is required to possess the knowledge and ability to exercise the requisite skills necessary, and who performs Senior Clerical, Office Supervision, Sales Promotion, or any other duties of a similar nature, together with a knowledge of the employer’s relevant procedures and practices.
Work Not Provided For
In the event of the employer engaging an employee to perform work not included in the definitions of Groups 1 to 8 inclusive in clause 5.1, the employer and the union will endeavour to agree in writing upon the rate per week to be paid for such work.
