Unless a contrary intention appears, expressions used in this award will have the following meanings:
7.1 Afternoon shift means any shift finishing after 6.00 p.m. and at or before midnight.
7.2 Airport operator
7.2.1 Is an employee employed principally in driving and/or operating any aviation refuelling or servicing unit or equipment or hydrant dispensing system at an airport to deliver aviation fuels, lubricants and/or other aviation products to aircraft and in receiving, storing and distributing such fuels, lubricants and other products at an airport installation, including the performance, as required, of all tasks ancillary to receipts, storage, distribution and delivery.
7.2.2 Included are employee duties connected with the safe, responsible and efficient operation of vehicles, units, plant equipment, minor maintenance and the general tidiness of facilities at an airport depot, the safety of personnel and the bridging of stocks by an Airport Operator from any location required by the employer to airports.
7.3 Day shift means work commencing at or before 7.00 a.m. and alternating with any other shift.
7.4 Day worker means an employee whose daily hours of work fall within the spread of ordinary hours as prescribed by this award.
7.5 Double time means double the employee’s ordinary-time rate.
7.6 Night shift means any shift finishing subsequent to midnight and at or before 8.00 a.m.
7.7 Ordinary-time rate means for an employee, other than a casual employee, the base wage rate prescribed in certified agreements read in conjunction with this award or, in the absence of a certified agreement, in accordance with the wage rates in this award.
7.8 Permanently working means an employee on shift work working on an afternoon shift or on a night shift or on a combination of afternoon and night shifts if:
7.8.1 the employee works on an afternoon or night shift and not alternating with another shift or with day work so as to give one-third of the employee’s working time off that afternoon or night shift or combination thereof in each shift work cycle; or
7.8.2 the employee remains on afternoon or night shift only, or combination thereof, for a longer period than four consecutive weeks; or
7.8.3 the employee is specifically engaged to work only on an afternoon or night shift or combination.
7.9 Seven-day shift worker means a shift worker who is regularly rostered, in accordance with a shift roster to work as part of the ordinary hours of shift work on Sundays and holidays.
7.10 Shift means a period of duty falling within the definition of shift work.
7.11 Shift work means work performed in daily recurrent periods wholly or partly, between the hours of 7.30 p.m. and 7.00 a.m.
7.12 Shift worker means an employee engaged on shift work as defined.
7.13 Time and a half means one and a half times the employee’s ordinary-time rate.
Aerodrome Attendant means an employee who:
(a) is employed principally in driving and/or operating any aviation refueling or servicing unit or equipment or hydrant dispensing system at an aerodrome; and
(b) delivers aviation fuels, lubricants and/or other aviation products or aircraft; and
(c) receives, stores and distributes such fuels, lubricants and other products at an aerodrome depot, including the performance as required of all tasks ancillary to such receipt, storage, distribution and delivery.
This definition does not exclude allocation by the employer of other duties connected with:
(i) the safe and efficient operation of vehicles, plant and equipment;
(ii) the general tidiness of facilities at an airport depot;
(iii) the safety of personnel; or
(iv) the bridging of stocks from terminals or depots to airports by an aerodrome attendant.
This definition does not include coxswains or motorboat drivers operating refueling units at a flying-boat base.
