25.1 Standard Hours (Oil Companies) Award 1974
The provisions of the Standard Hours (Oil Companies) Award 1974 [Print Q4640 [S0099]] will regulate the hours of work in this award and in so far as these two awards are inconsistent the Standard Hours (Oil Companies) Award 1974 [Print Q4640 [S0099]] will take precedence.
25.2 Hours - day workers
25.2.1 The ordinary hours of duty will be worked, except for meal breaks, between 7.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. (or in the case of clerks employed at refineries, petrochemical plants, installations, depots or warehouses, between 6.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.) weekdays, Monday to Friday inclusive. The normal hours existing in any establishment will not be increased without the agreement of a majority of employees. By agreement, work done prior to the spread of hours and after 5.00 a.m. (for which overtime rates are payable) will be deemed, for the purpose of this clause, to be part of the ordinary hours of work.
25.2.2 Subject to 25.2.1, the employer will fix starting and finishing times, which will not be altered, except by one week’s notice or in cases of emergency when starting and finishing times may be temporarily varied by agreement between the employer and a majority of employees. Such starting and finishing times may vary with different employees or sections of employees.
25.3 Hours - seven-day shifts
25.3.1 This subclause will apply to shift work arranged either for continuous and successive shifts throughout a week of 168 working hours or for two shifts per day on each of the seven days of the week notwithstanding that such two shifts may not run successively.
25.3.2 Subject to the following conditions such shift workers will work at such times as the employer may require:
25.3.2(a) a shift will consist of not more than eight hours, inclusive of crib time;
25.3.2(b) except at the regular changeover of shifts, an employee will not be required to work more than one shift in each 24 hours.
25.4 Hours - other than seven-day shifts
25.4.1 The ordinary hours of all other shift workers will be worked between 10.00 p.m. Sunday and 7.00 a.m. Saturday inclusive. Such ordinary hours will be worked continuously, except for meal breaks at the discretion of the employer.
25.4.2 Except at the regular changeover of shifts, an employee will not be required to work more than one shift in each 24 hours.
