26. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WORK

26.1 Saturday work - day workers

For all work done on Saturday the rates of pay will be time and a half for the first two hours and double time thereafter. An employee required to report for work on Saturday will be paid for at least four hours at the appropriate rate for each attendance.

26.2 Saturday work - seven-day shifts

The minimum rate to be paid to a seven-day shift worker for work performed on a shift, the major portion of which falls between midnight on Friday and midnight on Saturday, will be time and a half.

26.3 Saturday work - other than seven-day shifts

For all work done on a Saturday outside of his/her ordinary shift hours by a shift worker, other than a seven-day shift worker, the rate of pay will be time and a half for the first two hours and double time thereafter, provided that such a shift worker required to report for work on Saturday (other than for working his/her ordinary shift hours) will be paid for at least four hours at the appropriate rate for each attendance. If such Saturday hours are continuous with hours commenced prior to midnight Friday then 29.2 will apply.

26.4 Sunday work - day workers

26.4.1 For all work done on a Sunday the rate of pay will be double time to continue until the employee is relieved from duty. An employee required to report for work on a Sunday will be paid for at least four hours at double time for each attendance.

26.4.2 An employee, other than a casual employee, who works on a Sunday and (except for meal breaks) immediately thereafter continues such work will, on being relieved from duty, may be absent until he/she has had ten consecutive hours off duty, without deduction of pay for ordinary time of duty occurring during such absence.

26.5 Sunday work - seven-day shifts

The minimum rate to be paid to a seven-day shift worker for work performed on a shift, the major portion of which falls between midnight on Saturday and midnight on Sunday, will be double time.

26.6 Sunday work - other than seven-day shifts

26.6.1 For all work done on a Sunday by a shift worker, other than a seven-day shift worker (other than in his/her ordinary shift hours), the rate of pay will be double time. This rate will continue until the employee is relieved from duty. An employee required to report for work, other than for work in his/her ordinary shift hours on a Sunday, will be paid for at least four hours at double time for each attendance. The provisions of double time and minimum payment will not apply where work is continuous with the commencement, or completion, of the employee’s ordinary shift.

26.6.2 Where shifts commence before midnight on a Sunday, any time worked before midnight will not entitle the employee to the Sunday rate.

26.7 Telephoning for instructions

26.7.1 Subject to a minimum of three hours’ pay, where an employee complies with a direction to telephone for instructions in connection with Saturday or Sunday work he/she will be paid at his/her ordinary-time rate from that telephone call until either he/she:

26.7.1(a) is given a further direction to telephone later for instructions; or

26.7.1(b) is told a definite time at which he/she is to commence work; or

26.7.1(c) is released.

26.7.2 Where it becomes necessary for him/her to make a number of telephone calls at intervals determined by an authorised supervisor, he/she is to receive a minimum of three hours’ payment at his/her ordinary-time rate for each telephone call, provided that no payment will be made for any telephone call made within three hours of the last preceding telephone call.

26.7.3 When an employee commences work, all payments due under this subclause will cease.
