16. ALLOWANCES

16.1 Leading hands allowances

A leading hand shall in addition to the ordinary rate of pay for the classification in which he/she is employed be paid:

16.2 Cold room allowance

An employee required to work in a cold room, at a temperature below minus five degrees Celcius shall be paid an additional $0.72 per hour or part thereof whilst so employed.

16.3 Certificate allowances

16.3.1 A TAFE advanced certificate or associate diploma allowance of $18.00 per week is payable to Division A production employees who have fully completed a relevant advanced certificate or associate diploma. The allowance is payable for all purposes of the award.

16.3.2 An employee who holds a boiler certificate and who is required by the employer to hold and act on that certificate to regulate the operation of the boiler shall be paid an allowance of $9.05 per week.

16.4 Moving vehicles allowance

An employee required to move vendors vehicles on any day shall be paid a flat amount of $3.05 per day in addition to his/her ordinary rate of pay.

16.5 In charge of depot allowance

An employee required to take charge of a depot for two or more hours in any one day shall be paid $4.15 per day in addition to his/her ordinary rate of pay.

16.6 First aid allowance

The employer shall appoint an employee to act as a first aid attendant and where practicable such employee shall be qualified in first aid. The first aid person, if qualified, shall be paid $0.72 per day additional to his/her ordinary rate of wages.

16.7 Protective clothing allowance

16.7.1 Employees who are required to work in wet conditions shall be reimbursed the cost of protective clothing including rubber boots or rubber shoes.

16.7.2 If articles of clothing are supplied by the employer, they shall be supplied free of cost to the employee but shall remain the property of the employer at all times. Loss or deduction due to any cause arising out of the neglect or misuse by the employee shall be a charge against the wages of the employee. A deduction at a reasonable rate may be made by the employer from the wages of the employee, provided that no such deduction shall be made for reasonable wear and tear.

16.8 Uniform allowance

Where an employee is required by the employer to wear an article of uniform dress such as overalls etc., the cost of such clothing shall be reimbursed to the employee and shall be laundered by the employer. Provided that an employer may choose to pay an employee an amount of $7.50 per week and then require the employee to bear the cost of such laundering.

16.9 Meal allowance

The allowance referred to in 25.7 is $7.35.
