23.1 Definitions
23.1.1 Day shift means a shift finishing before or at 6.00 p.m.
23.1.2 Afternoon shift means a shift finishing after 6.00 p.m. and at or before midnight.
23.1.3 Night shift means a shift finishing subsequent to midnight and at or before 9.30 a.m.
23.2 An employee on afternoon shift or night shift shall be paid at the rate of time and a quarter of his/her ordinary day work rate.
23.3 An employee engaged on day shift who commences work prior to 6.00 a.m. shall be paid half time extra for all work prior to 6.00 a.m.
23.4 For all work in excess of the ordinary working hours prescribed by this award or on a shift other than his/her ordinary rostered shift an employee shall:
23.4.1 if employed on overtime during the day shift hours, be paid at the rate of time and a half for the first two hours and double time thereafter; or
23.4.2 if employed on overtime during the afternoon or night shift hours, be paid at the rate of time and three quarters for the first two hours and double time thereafter.
23.5 All ordinary time worked by shift workers between midnight Friday and midnight Saturday shall be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the ordinary prescribed rate and all overtime worked during such period shall be paid for at the rate of double the ordinary prescribed rate.
23.6 An employee on shift work shall be allowed not less than twenty minutes on each shift for crib which shall count as time worked. Provided that where a shift worker is required to work overtime for at least 1.5 hours, he/she shall be allowed crib time of twenty minutes at the end of his/her rostered shift which shall count as time worked.
23.7 All time worked on Sunday shall be paid at the rate of double time and all time worked on public holidays shall be paid at the rate of double time and a half.
23.8 Such appropriate payment shall be the maximum amount payable to employees whether on overtime or a rostered shift and includes all penalty rates payable to shift workers for that day.
