17. ALLOWANCES

17.1 Meal allowance

17.1.1 An employee is entitled to a meal allowance of $9.50 or be supplied with a meal where he/she is required to work overtime for one and one half hours or more before the normal starting time or after the normal ceasing time.

17.1.2 An employee is not entitled to the benefits of 17.1.1 where he/she can reasonably return home for meals.

17.2 Shift loading

17.2.1 For working rostered shifts, clerical employees engaged on shift work shall be paid an all embracing shift loading as prescribed in 17.2.3 in addition to the salaries set out in clause 16 - Salaries.

17.2.2 For the purpose of this subclause rostered shifts means the shifts established by the roster for each particular system of shift work including, where applicable, all rostered shifts on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Accordingly, the loadings below provide full compensation for all disabilities associated with working normal rostered shifts, including those worked on weekends and holidays.

17.2.3 The annual minimum shift work loading for various eight hour shift rosters are set out below:

The quantum of loadings for other shift rosters will be calculated using the same methodology as used in calculating the eight hour roster loadings set out above.

17.2.4 Subject to 26.8.2, the shift loadings above shall be paid in respect to holidays and approved paid leave pursuant to clauses 25 - Holidays, 26 - Annual leave, 27 - Sick leave, 28 - Family leave and 29 - Bereavement leave.

17.3 Dirty work

17.3.1 An employee doing work which a supervisor and the employee agree is of an unusually dirty or offensive nature shall be paid 49 cents per hour extra with a minimum payment of $1.95 per day or shift.

17.3.2 This allowance shall be paid irrespective of the times at which the work is performed and shall not be subject to any premium or penalty additions.
