PART 5 - HOURS OF WORK, SHIFT WORK, WEEKEND WORK AND OVERTIME 
 
Note: In this Part, unless otherwise stated, the terms ordinary time, time and one half, double time and double time and one half refer to the appropriate minimum annual salary prescribed in clause 16 – Salaries. 
 
21. DAY WORK

21.1 Subject to the provisions of this clause, the ordinary hours of work of day clerical employees shall be an average of 38 per week to be worked in not more than five days between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday inclusive. By agreement between the Company and the majority of employees concerned, this spread of hours may be altered by up to one hour at either end of the spread.

21.2 Within the limits prescribed above, the number of ordinary hours worked each day and the number of normal days worked each week will be tailored to business needs and determined by the Company in conjunction with the employees concerned.

21.3 The spread of hours prescribed in 21.1 may be altered as to some or all employees by mutual agreement between the Company and the majority of employees affected.

21.4 There will be one unpaid meal break each day of not less than 30 minutes and not more than 60 minutes duration. Meal breaks are to be taken at times mutually agreed between the Company and the employees concerned and may be staggered to meet business or operational needs.

21.5 Day workers will not be required to work more than the following ordinary hours continuously without the unpaid meal break specified above:

21.5.1 five hours in respect of days of up to and including ten ordinary hours duration; or

21.5.2 six hours in respect of days of more than ten ordinary hours duration.

21.6 When an employee works longer than the relevant continuous period specified in 21.5, he/she shall be paid at overtime penalty rates until relieved from duty and shall then take his/her normal meal break.
