19.1 Every full-time employee who is unable to attend or remain at his/her place of employment by reason of illness and who complies with the conditions prescribed in 19.2 shall be granted by his/her employer paid leave, not exceeding the sick leave credit of that employee.
19.2 The said leave shall be granted and the employee shall be entitled to pay in respect thereof on compliance with the following conditions:
19.2.1 within 24 hours after the commencement of absence the employee shall inform his/her employer of his/her inability to attend for duty and as far as practicable, of the nature of the illness and the estimated duration of the absence; and
19.2.2 if so required by his/her employer, the employee shall produce to the employer a medical certificate or other reasonable evidence to prove that he/she was unable to attend for duty on the day or days in respect of which he/she claims sick leave.
19.3 For the purpose of this clause the word illness includes personal injury but does not include an injury for which compensation is payable under the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1986 as amended from time to time.
19.4 For the purpose of 19.1 the sick leave credit of an employee with an employer shall be determined by adding to the accumulation of the sick leave, if any, standing to the credit of that employee with that employer (pursuant to this or any other industrial agreement or award relating to the industry of the occupations to which this agreement relates) immediately before 4 January 1973, the amount of leave that the employee is entitled to be granted by the employer pursuant to this clause and deduction from the total so obtained the amount of sick leave that has, pursuant to this clause, been so granted by the employer.
19.5 In respect of:
19.5.1 the first year of service with an employer that follows 4 January 1973, a full-time employee shall be entitled to a grant of leave on full pay under this clause by that employer of 1-5/13th hours per week; and
19.5.2 the succeeding years of continuous service with that employer, such an employee shall, on or after the commencement of each year, be entitled to a grant of leave under this clause by that employer equal to ten days on full pay.
19.6 Sick leave for part-time employees
19.6.1 A part-time employee is entitled in the first year of employment to be granted sick leave credits based on the quantum of leave prescribed by this award for a full-time employee. Sick leave credits for a part-time employee shall accrue in the first year of service on a weekly basis calculated in accordance with the following formula:

19.6.2 After completion of the first twelve months continuous service and after completion of each subsequent period of twelve months continuous service, a part-time employee is entitled to the grant of a further sick leave credit. The amount of sick leave credit shall be based on the average number of ordinary hours worked per week by the employee over the preceding twelve months. The following table shall be used in ascertaining the sick leave credit which must be granted to a part-time employee:

19.6.3 For the purposes of this clause, a part-time employee includes an employee who has been employed for part of the year as a full-time employee and for part of the year as a part-time employee. (In other words, where an employee has been employed during a twelve month period partly as a part-time employee and partly as a full-time employee, the averaging provisions shall be implemented.)
19.6.4 A part-time employee is entitled to paid sick leave up to a maximum of the number of hours of sick leave credit available at the time the employee becomes unable to attend for work because of illness. The grant of paid sick leave is subject to all other provisions of this clause.
