18. WAGE RATES

18.1 Base rates

The following base rates shall apply to employees covered by this award:

18.2 Production examiners approval

A LAME Grade I, II, III(A) and III(B) (as defined) who holds a Production Examiner’s Approval must be paid an allowance of $13.00 per week.

18.3 All purpose rates

The base rates of pay prescribed in 18.1 and the additional payments prescribed under 18.2, 18.6-18.11 and 19.11 will apply for all purposes of this award.

18.4 Higher duties

If an employee is required to act in a higher position in any day or shift, the employee must be paid either:

18.4.1 for the whole day or shift at the higher rate of pay; or

18.4.2 receive an increase in base pay at least equal to the allowance prescribed under clause 19.11 - Senior LAMEs,

whichever is the greater.

18.5 Absence from duty

An employee who does not attend for duty must, unless otherwise provided for in this award (e.g. sick leave) lose pay for the actual time of the non-attendance.

18.6 Ratings Payments - Airframe, Engine, Electrical and Instrument Categories

In addition to the rates set out in clause 18.1 above, a LAME holding an appropriate licence shall be paid in accordance with the table below:

18.6.1 Definitions

Active Rating: Current aircraft and engine types operated or maintained by the company.

Inactive Rating: Aircraft or engine types not operated or maintained by the company, but still attracting a payment in accordance with paragraph (18.11) “Redundant Aircraft Ratings and Loss of Classification”.

18.6.2 Maximum ratings and multiple category payments payable per employee shall be 18.

18.6.3 Where aircraft are maintained by the Company, on behalf of the Australian Armed Forces or the Armed Forces of another country and the same or similar aircraft are on the Australian Civil Register, or the Civil Register of another country and are also owned and maintained by the Company, such aircraft shall only attract one rating payment per category.

18.6.4 On completion of formal/practical type training, LAMEs shall apply for rating endorsement. The Company shall provide adequate practical training on completion of theoretical training.

18.7 Other operator’s aircraft

The Company agrees to discuss with the Association and Institute the question of maintenance, certification and payment for ratings held on other operators’ aircraft which are maintained by the Company. Any disagreement or disputation in relation to other operators’ aircraft shall be referred to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission for resolution.

18.8 Radio Payments

18.8.1 International Radio Payments

18.8.1(a) Radio category payment - A LAME who is authorised to certify maintenance on the aircraft listed in 18.6 shall be paid in accordance with the group classification prescribed in clause 18.6.

18.8.1(b) A LAME Radio who holds approval/s in relation to other operators’ aircraft which are maintained by the Company and who exercises such approval/s to certify maintenance shall be paid an additional payment of:

18.8.1(c) Radio category payments applicable to international LAMEs also holding ratings in the instrument or electrical or engine or airframe category/ies.

18.8.1(c)(i) Radio category payment

In addition to the rates set out in clause 18.1 hereof a LAME licensed in airframe, engine, instrument or electrical category and also holding the Radio Category Group ratings 1 - Communications Systems and Group 2 - Audio C.V.R. Systems and who holds a Radio Operator’s certificate of proficiency or equivalent shall be paid an amount of $66.62 per week.

18.8.1(c)(ii) Group rating payments

18.8.1(c)(iii) Aircraft Payment

18.8.1(c)(iv) The payment applicable in paragraphs 18.8.1(c)(i) and 18.8.1(c)(ii) will apply upon acquisition of the initial radio type endorsement.

18.8.2 Domestic Radio Payments

18.8.2(a) Radio Category Payment - In addition to the rates set out in clause 18.1, a LAME holding the Radio Category Group ratings 1 - Communication Systems and Group rating 2 - Audio C.V.R. Systems and who holds a Radio Operator’s certificate of proficiency or equivalent shall be paid an amount of $69.60 per week.

18.8.2(b) Group Rating Payments - In addition to the rates set out in clause 18.1, and paragraph 18.8.2(a) above, a LAME holding the following group rating payments shall be paid in accordance with the table set out hereunder for aircraft operated or maintained by the employer:

18.8.2(c) Aircraft Payment - When a LAME holds all appropriate group ratings and training to satisfy CAR214 is accomplished, the LAME shall be paid an aircraft payment of 25% of licence ratings payments as identified in clause 18.6 for each such aircraft.

Note: the reference to the Domestic Radio payment not being in the maximum rating recognition is applied. Included in clause 18.9 - Multiple Categories.

18.9 Multiple categories

In addition to the rates set out in clauses 18.1 and 18.6 hereof, a LAME shall be paid with respect to the second and each subsequent category held on aircraft operated or maintained by the employer the following additional payment of $21.05 per week, provided that at least one group 20/21 rating is held in such second and subsequent categories. A multiple category payment made under this subclause shall be regarded as a rating payment for the purpose of the maximum rating recognition of 18 as prescribed in clause 18.6 hereof. In reference to Domestic Radio payment, the maximum rating recognition shall not apply to the Radio rating and multiple category payments.

18.10 Military aircraft

Where an employee is an aircraft maintenance engineer who holds all relevant Civil Aviation basics in a category in which he/she has been issued with Department of Quality Assurance (D.Q.A.) approval/s, the following entitlements shall apply:

18.10.1 The basic rate of pay for a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer as prescribed in 18.1.

18.10.2 Payment for D.Q.A. approval/s issued in accordance with the aircraft groupings prescribed in “Active and Inactive Ratings”.

18.10.3 Payment for multiple category payments as prescribed in clause 18.9.

18.11 Redundancy aircraft ratings and loss of classification

18.11.1 Where a rating ceases to qualify for payment under the criteria of operated or maintained, a LAME shall retain rating(s) payment(s) at the then current rate, which will be absorbed by award increase in the base rate of payment from that time when an alternative licence rating is gained. Where a LAME declines to accept or fails the offered course, payment shall cease.

18.11.2 Where a rating(s) ceases to qualify for payment under the criteria of operated or maintained, a LAME shall retain the base and rating(s) payment(s) subject to attending a type training course for an alternative group 20/21 aircraft when offered by the operator. Where a LAME declines to accept or fails the offered course, payment shall cease.
