PART 10 - TRAINING AND RELATED MATTERS 

30. TRAINING

30.1 If an employee is required to attend an examination conducted by the Company or CASA and the application for the examination has been coordinated through the Qantas Technical Training Department the following provisions will apply.

30.1.1 International

30.1.1(a) The employee will be allowed time off without loss of ordinary pay (excluding shift penalties) for the purpose of attending the examination.

30.1.1(b) If an employee is withdrawn from shift work to attend Engineering Training School, he or she will be paid his or her full salary, including all shift allowances and weekend penalty rates that the employee would have received if he or she had worked his or her normal roster.

30.1.2 Domestic

30.1.2(a) Employees will be allowed time off without loss of pay for the purposes of attending examinations conducted by the Company and/or CASA.

30.1.2(b) Employees will make themselves available for all training courses on aircraft operated, maintained or serviced by the Company.

30.1.2(c) An employee who is required to attend a training course (including the gaining of experience) in Australia will be paid full salary including all shift allowances and weekend penalty rates that the employee would have received had he or she worked his or her normal roster.

30.1.3 An employee will not be required to attend for duty on any night shift which immediately precedes an examination. However, the LAME undergoing examinations may be required to accept a shift change to enable this provision to be effective.

30.1.4 Employees attending a training course and/or experience training away from their home base will be provided with transport by the Company for the following:

30.1.4(a) travel between the employee’s home and the airport (on commencement and completion of training/and or examination);

30.1.4(b) travel between accommodation provided by the Company and the Engineering School;

30.1.4(c) all outward and home bound travel to be at the same priority level.

30.1.5 If an employee has been absent overseas for the purpose of training for a period of four weeks or more, he or she will be entitled to two days paid resettlement leave.

30.1.5(a) An employee who is not based at the port at which the training is being conducted will, if practicable, be provided with free travel in accordance with Company procedures to and from his or her home base on weekends if the duration of the course exceeds five days.

30.1.6 If an employee is required to travel to or from Company run courses, excluding returning home during a course, any time spent travelling on Saturday, Sundays, rostered days off and public holidays will be paid at the appropriate penalty rates, a minimum of four hours.
