13. TYPES OF EMPLOYMENT

13.1 General

13.1.1 Flight attendants under this award may be employed in the following categories:

13.1.2 At the time of their engagement the Company must inform each flight attendant of the terms of their engagement and in particular whether they are to be full-time or part-time flight attendants.

13.2 Full-time employment

A flight attendant not employed as a part-time flight attendant is considered to be employed on a full-time basis.

13.3 Part-time employment

13.3.1 A part-time flight attendant is a flight attendant who is employed as such and:

13.3.2 At the time of engagement the Company and the part-time flight attendant will agree in writing on:

13.3.2(a) the part time nature of the rostered hours of a the flight attendant;

13.3.2(b) the maximum and minimum hours which may be worked by the part time flight attendant per bid period.

13.3.3 Any agreed variation to the maximum and minimum hours per bid period must be recorded in writing.

13.3.4 An employer is required to roster a part-time employee for a minimum of three consecutive hours on any shift.

13.3.5 All time accrued in excess of the part time minimum guarantee hours will be paid at the rate per duty hour credit prescribed in 16.1.1

13.3.6 A part-time flight attendant must receive, on a proportionate basis, equivalent pay and conditions to those of full-time flight attendants in the same classification.

13.3.7 The Company must provide a copy of the part time work agreement and any variation to it to the flight attendant.

13.4 Probationary employment

13.4.1 A flight attendant, may initially be engaged for a period of probationary employment for the purpose of determining the flight attendant’s suitability for ongoing employment. The flight attendant must be advised in advance that the employment is probationary and the duration of the probation period, which can be up to, but not exceed six months.

13.4.2 Existing flight attendants may be appointed to a new position on a probationary basis.
