21.1 Allocation
Ground duties may be allocated to a flight attendant on an available day(s) or on a day which does not conflict with minimum base turnaround time or awarded duty or on a designated duty free day where the Company is unable to assign ground duty on any other day.
21.2 Reallocation
If ground duty is subsequently cancelled, the duty may be reallocated by the Company either forward or back on the bid line subject to 21.1. The flight attendant may nominate a preference for such reallocation subject to availability and Company operational requirements.
21.3 Standard of proficiency and completion of ground duty
21.3.1 A flight attendant who fails to reach or maintain the required standard of proficiency during or at the completion of a Ground Duty or who fails to carry out a Ground Duty except for Company approved reasons must attain the proficiency or carry out further Ground Duty as may be required in his or her own time.
21.3.2 Further Ground Duty will not attract the accrual of duty hour credits for any purpose.
21.3.3 A flight attendant who undertakes such further Ground Duty and who loses time from his/her pattern or patterns will not be entitled to pay protection and his/her projected duty hour credits will be reduced by duty hour credits lost, unless through no fault of the flight attendant, he/she is unable to undertake such further Ground Duty within a time that is reasonable having regard to all the circumstances of the failure specified in 21.3.1.
21.4 Measurement of ground duty
21.4.1 A flight attendant's planned Ground Duty will begin at the Company required reporting time and will end at the planned time of his or her release from the duty.
21.4.2 A flight attendant's actual Ground Duty will begin at the actual reporting time of the Company required reporting time, whichever is the later, and will end at the actual time of release from the duty.
21.5 Hours of ground duty
21.5.1 A flight attendant must not be planned to perform Ground Duties in excess of:
21.5.1(a) 8 hours in any one day; and/or
21.5.1(b) 38 hours in 5 consecutive days; and/or
21.5.1(c) 5 days in any consecutive 7 days.
21.5.2 The minimum duty free time following a sequence of Ground Duties will be:
21.5.2(a) for one Ground Duty - 12 consecutive hours;
21.5.2(b) for 2 to 4 consecutive Ground Duties - one calendar day;
21.5.2(c) for 5 consecutive Ground Duties - 2 calendar days.
