PART 5 - HOURS OF WORK, SHIFT WORK, MEAL BREAKS AND OVERTIME 

22. ORDINARY HOURS OF WORK

22.1 Ordinary hours of work - day workers

22.1.1 Subject to 22.1.4, the ordinary hours of work are to be an average of 38 hours for a rail operations employee and 37.5 hours per week for a corporate services support/infrastructure employee.

22.1.2 The ordinary hours of work prescribed in 22.1.1 may be worked on any day, Monday to Friday.

22.1.3 Ordinary hours of work prescribed herein are to be worked continuously, except for meal breaks, at the discretion of TransAdelaide between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. An employee will not be required to work more than five hours without a break for a meal.

22.1.4 The ordinary hours of work prescribed herein must not exceed eight hours on any day, except where agreement has been reached between TransAdelaide and an employee to work ordinary hours by means of flexitime or a nineteen day month.

22.1.5 Where the ordinary hours are averaged over a cycle, an employee who is required to work on a day designated as an accrued day off will do so at single rate of pay and be given an alternative mutually satisfactory day off.

22.2 Ordinary hours of work - shift workers

22.2.1 The ordinary hours of work for shift workers are to be an average of 38 per week and must not exceed 76 hours in fourteen consecutive days. The number of shifts worked will not exceed ten in any fortnight.

22.2.2 The ordinary hours of work are to be worked continuously, except for meal breaks, at the discretion of TransAdelaide. An employee will not be required to work more than five hours without a break for a meal.

22.2.3 The ordinary hours of work prescribed herein will not exceed eight on any day except where agreement has been reached between TransAdelaide and the majority of employees in the worksite, department or section concerned to work ordinary hours by means of a nineteen day month or nine day fortnight.

22.2.4 Except at change over of shifts an employee will not be required to work more than one shift in each 24 hours.

22.2.5 Where the ordinary hours are averaged over a cycle, an employee who is required to work on a day designated as an accrued day off will do so at single rate of pay and be given an alternative mutually satisfactory day off.

22.3 Operations Controllers

22.3.1 An employee employed pursuant to a classification in this award as an Operations Controller will be entitled to receive Block book off and a paid crib of twenty minutes.
