29. SPECIALIST INDUSTRY ALLOWANCE

29.1 Employees shall receive in addition to 15.2.1 - Base Wage Rates an industry allowance of $69.83 per week.
29.2 This allowance is paid for all purposes of this award.
29.3 The specialist industry allowance is payable to all employees covered by this award. It is paid in total recognition of the unique features associated with the waste industry. These features include but are not restricted to the requirement:

• to work in areas regarded as unusually offensive and obnoxious;
• to handle obnoxious waste;
• to work in the open in all weather variables;
• to be able to adapt to and handle hydraulic lifting apparatus and compaction units associated with waste vehicles;
• to work at times with waste product which has the potential to be dangerous and therefore the requirement to abide by correct safe operating procedures including the wearing of appropriate protective safety equipment.

These industry features may vary from workplace to workplace and between individual functions within the waste industry.

29.4 The specialist industry allowance can be absorbed to the extent of any existing overaward payments.
