15. CLASSIFICATION - WAGE GROUP
15.1 New South Wales
15.1.1 Adults
The minimum rates of pay shall be the rate of pay prescribed for the wage group in 15.1.2. and 15.2.

15.1.3 NSW junior employees - junior employees shall receive the percentages as set out below, of the appropriate adult rate prescribed in 15.1.2 of this clause.

Junior rates shall be calculated to the nearest five cents, any part of five cents not exceeding half of five cents to be disregarded.

15.2.2 Age based discounted rates
Employees less than twenty years of age employed as a Retail Food Employee Grade 1 are to be paid the percentages as set out below of the adult rate of a Retail Food Employee Grade 1.

Provided that where an employee who has been paid age based discounted rates as a Retail Food Employee Grade 1 performs higher duties as a Retail Food Employee Grade 2 or Grade 3, the employee must be paid full wages when resuming duties as a Retail Food Employee Grade 1, after the period of higher duties.
15.3 Higher duties
Employees engaged for more than two hours during one day or shift on duties carrying a higher rate than their ordinary classification are to be paid the higher rate for such day or shift. If engaged for two hours or less during one day or shift, the employee is to be paid the higher rate for the time worked only.
15.4 Apprenticeship (other than NSW)

15.4.2 The employer may engage pre-apprentices and apprentices under the terms of the regulations or provisions of the appropriate State Training authority or its agent (STA) provided that a person shall not be deemed to be an apprentice until their indenture has been approved by the STA.
15.4.3 The employer shall reimburse an apprentice for all fees and levies relevant to the apprentice training upon satisfactory completion of each year's training and the cost of all tools necessary for carrying out his or her work, except where tools are provided at the employer's expense.
15.4.4 The pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship training program and conditions shall be in accordance with the appropriate STA or its agent.
15.4.5 All other conditions of employment shall be in accordance with this award.

15.5.1 The rates of pay in this award include the arbitrated safety net adjustment payable under the Safety Net Review – Wages June 2005 decision (PR002005). This arbitrated safety net adjustment may be offset against any equivalent amount in rates of pay received by employees whose wages and conditions of employment are regulated by this award which are above the wage prescribed in the award. Such above-award payments include wages payable pursuant to certified agreements, currently operating enterprise flexibility agreements, Australian workplace agreements, award variations to give effect to enterprise agreements and overaward arrangements. Absorption which is contrary to the terms of an agreement is not required
Increases made under previous National Wage Case principles or under the current Statement of Principles, excepting those resulting from enterprise agreements, are not to be used to offset arbitrated safety net adjustments.
