17. WAGE RATES

17.1 Employees must be paid the following [minimum] wage rates per year:

17.2 Higher duties

17.2.1 If the Company requires an employee to temporarily act in a higher position or classification which attracts a higher salary, the Company must pay the employee an allowance equal to the difference between the employee’s current salary and the salary for the higher position in accordance with the following table:

Allowance for any period in excess of one day.

   

Level 5-7

Allowance for any period in excess of five consecutive days.

17.2.2 Any period during which an employee who is being relieved hands over to the employee who is performing higher duties, or vice versa, must not be included in calculating the period referred to in the payment column of the table.

17.2.3 If the Company does not designate to an employee the full responsibilities of the more senior position, the Company must set out in writing to the employee his or her duties and the allowance to be paid.

17.3 Salary progression

17.3.1 Any employee who has received a particular salary for a period of 12 months must be paid the next higher rate of salary prescribed for the employee’s respective salary range.

17.3.2 Despite any other provisions of this award, the Company may, for reasonable cause, withhold any increment or part of any increment from the employee at the end of any year of service in the salary range to which the employee has been appointed. To do this, the Company must notify the employee in writing of the reason for withholding the increment, or part of the increment, within 14 days after it would otherwise have become due to the employee.

17.3.3 If an employee:

17.3.3(a) acts in a position for which the employee receives the higher duties allowance under 17.2; and

17.3.3(b) within a three month period of acting in that position, is confirmed in that position,

the period during which the employee acted in the position immediately preceding the confirmation must be counted as service in the higher salary range for the purpose of determining the appropriate salary rate and/or the incremental date in the higher range.
