18. ALLOWANCES

18.1 Expenses and allowances

Employees must be paid expenses and allowances as specified by the Company from time to time.

18.2 Disability allowance

18.2.1 If significant disabilities occur for a period of two weeks or more because of construction, reconstruction, alteration, major repair or other like work at or in the immediate vicinity of the premises in which the employees are required to work, the union may claim the following allowances on behalf of affected employees, to be paid from the date of the union’s claim:

18.2.1(a) if the construction work involves excessive fumes, noise and dust or other like disabilities through construction vehicles, drilling, electric saws and jack hammering, form work and concrete pours, 58 cents per hour;

[18.2.1(b) varied by PR975300 ppc 01Dec06]

18.2.1(b) if the construction work involves noise and dust or other like disabilities to a limited degree, due to alterations and/or the removal or installation of plant and machinery and a marked reduction in work space, 32 cents per hour.

18.2.2 The allowance must not be included with the wage rates for all purposes of the award. These amounts must be reviewed regularly. If, upon review, the parties are unable to reach agreement, the matter must be referred to the Commission for determination.

18.3 Engineering instructors B767 allowance

If the Company requires an employee to hold and exercise a Production Examiners Authority to check and certify the maintenance, inspection, overhaul, repair, rectification, modification, calibration and testing of aircraft components, aircraft equipment or aircraft ground support equipment, the employee must be paid an allowance of $2482.70 per year.

18.4 General foreman and foremen’s licence payment

18.4.1 The Company must pay an employee an allowance in accordance with the table in 18.5 if the employee:

18.4.1(a) is employed by the Company as:

18.4.1(a)(i) a Maintenance supervisor;

18.4.1(a)(ii) a Maintenance coordinator;

18.4.1(a)(iii) a Maintenance controller;

18.4.1(a)(iv) a Technical specialist; or

18.4.1(a)(v) a Senior technical specialist; and

18.4.1(b) holds a licence/approval endorsed on an aircraft issued by the Civil Aviation Authority or other relevant authority; and

18.4.1(c) is required to exercise that licence by certifying maintenance of that aircraft; and

18.4.1(d) has completed training on the aircraft concerned.

18.4.1(e) The additional amount must be paid to an employee in respect of each category in which the ratings, approvals, authorisations or certificates are held.

18.4.2 The Company must pay an employee an additional amount in accordance with the table in 18.5 if the employee:

18.4.2(a) is employed by the Company as:

18.4.2(a)(i) an Engineering training instructor;

18.4.2(a)(ii) a Senior engineering instructor; or

18.4.2(a)(iii) an Engineering controller (avionics and mechanical); and

18.4.2(b) is authorised by the Civil Aviation Authority or other relevant authority to conduct and certify licence examinations on an aircraft type set out in the table; and

18.4.2(c) is required to instruct maintenance staff on that aircraft; and

18.4.2(d) has completed the necessary training in the appropriate licence categories on the aircraft concerned.

18.4.2(e) The additional amount must be paid to an employee in respect of each licensed category rating on aircraft which they are qualified, required to instruct and authorised to examine.

18.4.3 For the purpose of this subclause licensed category means airframes, engines, electrical systems, instrument systems and radio systems.

18.6 Transport allowance

18.6.1 Subject to clause 18.6.2, if an employee employed at an airport:

18.6.1(a) is employed as a shift worker on an ordinary shift which commences or finishes after 7.00 p.m. and before 7.00 a.m. (other than day shift); or

18.6.1(b) works overtime between 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. and that overtime is continuous with the employee’s normal hours of duty,

the employee is entitled to a transport allowance of $6.90 per shift.

18.6.2 The allowance is not payable to an employee who is supplied with transport or reimbursed for transport.

18.7 Tropical district allowance

Employees are entitled to a district allowance in accordance with the Australian Public Service Regulations applying from time to time.

18.8 Uniform and laundry allowance

18.8.1 If an employee is required to wear protective clothing as stipulated by the relevant law operating in a state or territory covered by this award, the Company must reimburse the employee for the cost of the special clothing. The provisions of this clause do not apply if the clothing is paid for by the Company.

18.8.2 All employees provided with uniforms shall be issued with 5 laundry service vouchers monthly at no cost to the employee.
