An Expert Panel for the road transport industry has made a time-sensitive road transport contractual chain order. The order requires adjustment of rates to ensure that parties in road transport contractual chains can recover the increased cost of fuel caused by conflict in the Middle East.
On 20 April 2026 an Expert Panel for the Road Transport Industry made the Road Transport Contractual Chain Order – Fuel Cost Recovery – 2026.
The order operates from 21 April 2026.
It covers people in road transport contractual chains involving the performance of work in the road transport industry.
It does not cover the cash in transit industry.

On 14 April 2026, we issued a notice of intent to make a Road Transport Contractual Chain Order and asked for submissions on a draft order. Submissions closed at noon (AEST) on 17 April 2026. The Expert Panel considered submissions received from workers, businesses, and other stakeholders about the draft order. Submissions we received are published on this webpage.

A road transport contractual chain is a series of contracts or arrangements for the performance of work in the road transport industry. The Fair Work Commission can consider making minimum standards orders and guidelines for road transport contractual chains.
