About the AEU
Financial year: 1 January to 31 December (except the Tasmania and Western Australia branches, where the financial year is 1 July to 30 June)

Date of registration: 4 February 1987 as the Australian Teachers’ Union, before a name change to the Australian Education Union on 16 August 1993
The organisation has a branch in each state and territory. Each branch is a reporting unit for the purpose of financial reporting.
The supreme governing body is the Federal Conference of the organisation. Its elections are conducted by the AEC.
